as a straight guy, who really cares if someone is lgbtq+ or not? 99.9% them aren't forcing anyone to be gay, it's not like the community is full of hypnotists who are going to make your kids gay. in fact, it's usually the reverse since conversion therapy is still legal in 60% of US states (not counting individual munincipalities), so it really seems like hypocrisy justifies most of this.

The NRA didn't "turn" pro gun control they were pro gun control. They lobbied for the NFA and really most gun control legislation for decades and never pushed back on anything until they wanted a national registry. If the cops hadn't shot Ken Ballew the NRA may still support gun control.
