I myself just shrug and don't watch Fox News or any of it's outlets if given the choice. Sometimes that isn't the case, say at the RMV and it's running on the TV's in the background for example. I also believe that the world would be a better place if more people choose that path/option instead of forcibly trying to censor a viewpoint just because they don't agree with it, such as the case here in Canada apparently as I believe that to be setting a dangerous precedent that could be abused in the future should the political poles shift down the line. Everyone has a right to free speech, regardless of how much it may or may not upset a person. Just as everyone else has the right to ignore them if they don't like what they have to say.

I honestly don't care that much if Fox News gets banned here. Suffice it to say that I mainly know Fox News by some of their more prominent hosts, such as the recently fired Tucker Carlson, who is an outspoken parasite and liar. Is all of Fox News like him? I don't know, I tend to stay away from the platform. I do think that Canada needs to make sure that us and the US aren't following similar trajectories in terms of our politics and culture.

I feel like nothing that has been labeled fascist in the past twenty pages has actually been fascist, but, more to the point, I’m skeptical that facile attempts to label everyone and everything you find objectionable as literally Hitler is within the scope of the OP.

With regard to the consultation on whether to ban FOX over homophobic/transphobic reporting, I believe it’s wrongheaded and contrary to the liberal principles of freedom of speech, expression, conscience, and press that serve as cornerstones to a pluralistic democracy. It’s not particularly surprising though. Canada has prompted concerns in this area before, previously flirting with compelled speech over trans issues and cracking down on mostly peaceful protests because they were noisy and associated with right-wing opposition.

My opinions are, as ever, a bit more nuanced than “free speech good”, but I have a high degree of skepticism when we begin discussing suppressing speech related to something that is currently hotly debated within the context of the culture wars and where we’re still making groundbreaking discoveries about the neurology and biochemistry. Most especially when many of the advocacy organizations pushing for suppression do not have a coherent paradigm because they refuse to gate-keep or define terms.

It feels like forcing a viewpoint on folks through government coercion that is neither well-supported nor necessarily popular when it comes to surveys. And, unlike an issue such as same-sex marriage, this is going to impact other people because, as mentioned above, it suppresses the expression of a number of commonly held beliefs with the intention of suspending debate before it’s properly settled or explored.

EDIT: I should probably clarify that recent neurological research has identified a number of patterns that are associated with gender nonconforming identity. Beyond that, my skepticism isn’t really aimed at the sizable bulk of psychological literature suggesting that gender-affirming care is a treatment option that dramatically improves quality of life for trans patients. I was more focused on social and legal implications with regard to other people since we’re quite clearly moving from tolerance and legal protection, which is well-supported and popular in general, to hegemonic acceptance, which is not and may conflict with other rights and social concerns.
