I think the bold specifically is where I am not understanding this line of reasoning. How are you defining "act of thinking" vs "action." I've been working under an assumption that action covers more than protests, voting, or joining political parties (although you might not consider these to be actions either?). I also consider actions to be written tracts or speeches defending/promoting Communism, but my understanding is that you disagree with this line of reasoning and consider these to still be "acts of thinking."

No. We actually agree with what constitutes an act of action and an act of thinking. My issue with what you said is that it was "line of reasoning should be banned."

As a line of reasoning is by its very definition " The formal structure of an argument. In other words, the way that claims and reasons are arranged to lead to the conclusion" is purely a thought process and not any associated acts. You are saying a way of thinking should be banned. I asked how do you ban a way of thinking and you pointed to a the catholic church. I ask again under what umbrella of volintary association do you suggest a "line of thinking should be banned."? Are you saying the catholic church should ban the line of reasoning that immorality should be criminalized? If not the catholic church who should do the banning?

To me, an act of thinking is more literal - just thinking. Only going as far as to write about the thoughts in a personal journal would be the only physical aspect of this thought. But when it comes to spreading the idea, the act of thinking becomes action. When speeches or thought pieces are written they are typically done so as a form of persuasion, so therefore these would be actions. These actions would be seen as grounds for excommunication (in this very specific example provided earlier).

But again, I might be misunderstanding your perspective about thought vs action here. This is also straying very far away from the initial discussion of a porn ban, so to drag it back to the topic: if porn and support for porn were grounds for excommunication just as Communism once was it would not be limited to just the production. Vocal support would be grounds for excommunication, and (going by how I've been defining it) both the thought and action of Pornography would be essentially banned by the Catholic church.

Which brings us back to the Catholic Church being a organization that exists under voluntarily association. Whose umbrella did you intend to ban the "line of reasoning" that "immorality should be criminalized"? Who would do the banning and again how do you ban a line of reasoning? As under none of your examples did you indicate the Catholic church banned methods of thinking.

You realize forcing someone to do something they don't wanna do will not make them do it all the time? They'll do it just as much as they need to and then stop.
You can control your life. If you are set on making your life better, you can do that. You don't need someone constantly watching your every move to improve. That's not even improving. It's living a lie. Being constantly watched and observed, constantly forced to do what someone wants without any freedoms, constanty banned from doing what you want? That's not living. That's being forced to exist. That's being molded into an "ideal citizen" where you will never be happy, but will be forced to pretend to be or else your suffering could increase even more.
