Our vet seems to think the allergies are environmental, which would make sense because my seasonal allergies are also flaring up. Probably should have specified that fact.
mmm as somebody who lives in Australia, i’m guessing you live somewhere where it’s getting to summer… your dog probably does have hayfever. so seasonal allergies, yes. atopic dermatitis is quite common here, and there are rashes. just trust your vet on this one.
if you’re worried, you can also look at over-the-counter medications for dogs or ask your vet about them. there are antihistamines for pets if it’s hayfever.
i hope you and pippa are doing alright though!

Was your great-uncle in the US Army at that time?

I'm amazed when people talk about their extended family like this. I'm sure I could piece it together if I really tried, looked through the attic, and asked around, but I couldn't even tell you much about my great-grandparents. Singular great.
I can make more educated guesses about my ancestors from the 1860s, but maybe that's a Southern thing.

It's easier for me to find out stuff on my mom's side than my dad's side. I think that family history is more important to them. All of the family members that I listed (other than great-grandma) were on mom's side. My uncle knows quite a bit about our family history, so I've gotten most of the stories from him. I've gotten some from mom too. And as a kid I liked flipping through the pages of grandma's family Bible because of all the photos and documents I could find.
Apparently my aunt has a trunk in her attic that contains photos, records, and a preserved turkey leg that my grandpa kept for some reason (I think my aunt said he kept it for good luck). I'd love to go through it.
I'm just now starting to learn more about dad's side.
