Why does it matter she won a gold medal in 2002?

I suppose it's a little more impressive than taking silver.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signs bill banning Tiktok outright

I don't see it surviving a legal challenge for two reasons. First, although we can and have banned foreign media, the requirements for doing so are fairly high(we banned Al-Manar TV for being owned by Hezbollah, for example), and since we're not actually at war with the PRC, Montana will have a hard time claiming enemy origin. Second, even if that bar is met, how the hell can a single state actually enforce this ban? No individual state has the means to actually enforce such a measure.

Slightly interesting, no reason not to say it, really.

I am entirely the asshole who, had he won the Olympic gold medal, would find new and continuously inventive ways to bring it up.

Maybe it was a particularly challenging year? It says on Wikipedia, for the January 13th (a month before the Winter Olympics) entry under events of 2002 in the United States, the following:

“President Bush chokes on a pretzel and faints briefly.”

Undoubtedly, this had massive implications for the political and sporting worlds.

I remember that, it was kind of funny at the time. As for the 2002 games, the skating scandal was the big story there. Russian Bratva interference...some things never change.

Sure they do, you just warn the isps that they will be held complicit for providing access. To avoid prosecution / civil litigation, they geolock access to the app.

Everyone with VPN gets around it, but most people don't have them so they won't be able to use it.

Well, that's the logistics issue settled, all that's left is the constitutional issue, and I dare say SCOTUS will ultimately get involved and officially set new standards for when foreign media can be banned.

It happens, about 20 years ago, Aaron Schock's first political job pre-blowing public funds on his office was as a high school graduate elected to school board, and as a Write-in candidate to boot.

It seems that Ingraham is not fired, but the time-slot line-up changes may leave her and Trace Gallagher out the line-up. If that is the case her show may end up on weekends only, or as a talking-head she would become a part of another show. Carlson's departure has left a gaping ratings wound, and for several of us Tucker was the last thing that kept us tethered to Fox. A grand nephew and his family still watches Levin, and Hilton.

Carlson was one of the few talking heads on Fox that would actually have meaningful conversations with Leftists, Liberals, Conservatives and Libertarians -- anyone that would come on his show. If one was sincere and honest about what they were talking about, he would let them speak their peace even if they were a bit flaky or off kilter. Sometimes it was annoying listening to a PETA or Greenpeace member, but it helped broaden understanding with each other. If one was corrupt or deceptive like a few forever-war RINOs that came on, Tucker would let them have it (usually with a follow-up expose as well).

How is he not suited for the job? Do you you even know what the school board does?

It’s a great starting point for elected office.

Suspected leaker was warned multiple times

A US airman suspected of leaking classified files was warned repeatedly about his handling of classified information, prosecutors say.

In a court filing, US prosecutors argued Jack Teixeira should remain in detention because of his "wilful disregard" for protecting information.

He allegedly leaked files even after he was warned by his superiors on two separate occasions last year.

The 21-year-old has been in custody since the FBI arrested him on 14 April.

He was charged with the unauthorised transmission and retention of defence materials after dozens of classified files appeared in the online chat room Discord. They included sensitive information about US allies and the war in Ukraine.

A judge will soon decide whether he should remain in detention until his trial and is expected to hear arguments on Friday.

The court filing from justice department prosecutors on Wednesday alleged Mr Teixeira's superiors had flagged "concerning actions" around Mr Teixeira's handling of classified information.

It said that on one occasion he was seen taking notes and putting them in his pocket. His superiors then asked him to stop taking notes in any form on classified information, prosecutors said.

A month later, Mr Teixeira's bosses discovered he was "potentially ignoring a cease-and-desist order on deep diving into intelligence" after he went to a classified briefing and posed "very specific questions" about what was discussed. They told him to stop and "focus on his job", the court filing said.

Then, in February 2023, after someone saw the airman viewing intelligence information that was "not related to his primary duty", Mr Teixeira's supervisors were notified, according to the court document. It is unclear if he was disciplined.

All seems a very lackadaisical approach to security

Florida Ron DeSantis is expected to formally enter the 2024 race next week. He will be the most high-profile Republican to take on Trump, although he is lagging a bit behind the former President.

DeSantis' plan seems to be pretty clear: run further to right on certain issues on Trump. That would be on abortion, guns, immigration, healthcare, and COVID-19 Vaccination. It seems his attempt is to out trump, Trump. He hopes that will win over conservative voters and take advantage of Trump's reluctance to take an official position on key issues. But he does risk alienating independents, women, and moderates should he win the nomination.

Basically, we can hope that DeSantis and Trump damage each other at this point.

I’ve heard that apparently before COVID he ran as a moderate but then after that became what he is now. Kind of sad but ironic when you think of it. (Assuming it’s not hearsay but who knows)

The general public won't remember them unless they have won multiple gold medals like Usian Bolt or Micheal Phelps. Especially from a winter Olympics twenty one years ago.

Trump has already flippflopped right past at least his explicit 2016 stances. So I don’t see how Florida Man can win the primary with this. You can’t outsell a pivot with the base behind Qanon. And that’s without being an charm desert like DeSantis.
