Charlottesville and Albemarle County leading the way in early voting turnout in Virginia.

Keep in mind this is only the primary which is officially June 20th.

the state is voting for House of Delegates and State Senate and some county and municipal elections in November.

Republicans narrowly control the House 52-48 and Democrats control the State Senate 22-18 having gaining a seat earlier this year.

There's a big difference between venture capitalism, and leveraging all your assets in hopes they somehow increase resale value. This plan Umeria is spinning is only technically possible, and beyond stupid to actually try and apply.

Oh no. This is super common among the rich. It allows them to benefit from their capital gains without actually selling the shares and producing a tax liablity.

So I guess what that ad was all about, they needed to paint it as a win and get the voters to rally support because it wasn't that big of a win.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I mean, I would have preferred that Biden hold his ground and either force the GOP to cave or invoke the 14th. The Republicans on the Supreme Court might be hacks, but they're also shameless whores for big business who would be leaning on them hard to avoid a default, even if it means taking away the gun their party likes to hold to the nations head every time they want to throw a tantrum about losing the White House.

But failing that this deal does seem like it was just about the best possible outcome that could have been hoped for, since Republicans appear to have gotten completely hosed and are trying to claim symbolic 'wins' on shit they all ready controlled (spending for the next 2 years) or that was happening anyway (student loan repayments resuming).

Even the energy permitting reform is a split decision at best, since green energy projects get stuck in permitting hell as often as fossil fuel stuff. So they'll get to throw a bone to their dimwitted base about getting a few more shitty projects approved, meanwhile the transition to renewables will accelerate. And it will make Joe Manchin happy, which is unfortunately still a necessity for the Democrats.

The other good thing is that this deal extends the limit for two years which means we won’t deal with it until summer of 2025.

That’s a big win for Biden as republicans only wanted the limit to be extended through the end of the year.

Speaking of the Far-Right, they are floating the threat of McCarthy's Speakership over the debt ceiling deal.

It's not a given if they will go through with it, but McCarthy appears to be on the clock. The deal will likely get enough votes in the House to pass though it might cost McCarthy his seat - unless he's forced to negotiate with Democrats to keep his Speaker Seat.

I could definitely see the democrats supporting him as speaker, especially as he’s shown that he can negotiate things. And democrats will most definitely negotiate to get some power/perks in favor of supporting him.

Or it could have not. Better to get two years than none at all.

Either way best to make removing the debt limit a priority in 2024 elections for democrats. If they can maintain control of both houses and the White House then they could make the debt limit as high as they want

More fundamentally, a deal with Democrats would keep McCarthy alive for the rest of this term, but how does he win reelection after infuriating Republican voters? To say nothing of the fact that he'd have to bring at least a couple of other Republicans into the deal with him to have 218 total votes. Maybe Brian Fitzpatrick could survive switching parties, but there's not many Republicans who could, and certainly not McCarthy. Being pushed out by the Freedom Caucus like Boehner would be humiliating, but getting Democratic support ends with the same overall result

Yes. But McCarthy desperately wants to be speaker, no matter how long. I’d suggest the Tuesday Group might just be able to survive jumping.

He doesn’t.

And honestly it would actually help the democrats has the MAGA nuts would most definitely run someone against him and lead to vote splitting in a very republican district.

Would be fucking funny to see a democrat being elected in CA-20

Assuming that this country doesn't collapse, I'm gonna predict that Dems gain pretty heavily in the House next year, make a slight pickup in the Senate, would be larger, but Joe Manchin's seat is unavailable, even if he wins. Roy Cooper will be re-elected, there will be a one or two statehouse gain by Dems. Trump will lose, but only after a bruising primary season making the last Republicans who aren't MAGA bolt the party for good. Sadly, this will pull Dems even more into the center, which is not where they ultimately want to be, creating more friction with the progressive camp.
