It will be painful, and like all appeasement, it won't stop further fiscal aggression. The only reason caving will have to happen is that the alternative is too terrifying, economically and politically, for Americans to contemplate.

Currently the deal has some cuts but reportedly less than what the republicans wanted. Mainly the republicans are pushing for work requirements for medicaid which could leave 1.5 million without healthcare.

It seems that republicans have dropped some of the more outrageous of cuts like the veterans stuff.

What I’m reading at the moment is that the main bulk of the cuts will be in green energy and healthcare mainly Medicaid.

So not great but not what the republicans wanted either, as evidenced at the conservative wing mad at the progress of the deal.

Basically it sounds like nobody will actually be happy

Edit: I actually think McCarthy is banking on moderate republican and democrat support to push the deal through.

Which could be bad news for him after this

Eh the thing is that democrats want to be able to use this threat of tanking the economy when they control the house so they can get some concessions.

Much like the filibuster they want to use it if they are ever in the minority

The problem is that it most definitely will be questioned in court which will lead to the markets tanking which is not good.

Noem is pretty milquetoast on the TV front. Well….from what little I have seen of her….

Actually Trump likes Lake a lot as she’s fanatically loyal to him and that’s all he cares about. Plus her support of the election lie is crucial for him.

That is true. Loyalty is paramount. However, I still think the TV ratings will be a factor for him. If she pulls more; he won’t like that…..

The few Republicans I’d even think of supporting would be Phil Scott, Olympia Snowe and Charlie Baker. And maybe Larry Hogan. Sununu supporting Trump is just the bridge too far.
