This woman is a flat earther and ran for Senate in Delaware last year and lost in a landslide. She might very well run again. This isn't someone I want anywhere near elected office.

A rather stunning endorsement, if we're being honest.

i didn't endorse this nutcase. This is someone who also called Hurricane Ian a sign of weather manipulation and claimed it was deliberately targeted at Florida to punish them and that letting women vote was the worst thing to happen to America.

I don't understand Ron, he's clearly smart enough to know that he has an image problem, but takes the worst possible steps to rectify it. He seems to have no iota of good political intuition.

If things keep going like this, Trump is going to decapitate him and gift Bob Iger his gilded skull as a ceremonial goblet.

There was an NYT story that promptly got totally overshadowed by the Spaces failure about how his wife is actually pretty active in his political maneuvers and is much more personable and able to give him some social/emotional depth or cover— imagine if he’d just been normal and done a big speech with her and their kids by his side, in some stadium or at Cape Canaveral or some new road or something, with a crowd of adoring supporters and a shitload of news cameras! But no, better do an audio-only event on a glitchy website with an autistic billionaire who also uses it to drone on about his own pet issues— and the audience didn’t even end up being that big. This is pretty bad for Twitter, too; I expect all those takes about how amazing it is that it’s still running despite losing the vast majority of its engineers are going to dry up pretty quickly. RIP also to Tucker Carlson, who I’m guessing is wondering whether bringing his show to Twitter will even be technically feasible atp.

I really enjoyed that story, read it the other day. She is extremely involved in a way that may ultimately serve to his detriment, as you alluded to.

As for everything else, I love to see it. DeSantis looked at the plate of options for a launch at his disposal and managed to pick the worst possible one. I don't want a Biden v. Trump rematch, but watching DeSantis get thrashed is just good entertainment. There's something innately unlikable about that guy, beyond just my disagreement over politics.

Relax, if she wins she'll be a Senator from Delaware, which is a made-up state for people to claim tax loopholes.

You have to be moronic if you really think that not knowing something as basic, and provable, as the fact the earth is round doesn't indicate her level of decision making processes. The fact that she doesn't accept this basic concept, even to the point of arguing against it, demonstrates her inability to understand basic evidence.

If she was merely ignorant because she'd never learned it, that's perhaps one thing, but to be adamantly against it - she's done her research and come up with the dumbest conclusion.

No, but they influence where they're sent and what they're equipped with and who's put in charge of them. You do know senators are often the ones writing military officer candidates' letters of rec for school, right?

How's she going to vote when it comes to NASA funding? Do you like having accurate weather predictions? Should we bother having a space force or spy satellites; is she going to try and block military spending on their communications satellites? If SpaceX ends up before the Chancery Court for some Elon-related fuckery, is she going to be trying to pull strings?

It's not really about basic knowledge of the earth's shape having too much impact on the politics of Delaware, it's about the fact that she's been presented with information that objectively supports one conclusion, and she's gone with the opposite, dumbest conclusion instead.

It's not ignorance, it's making a fucking stupid decision given the evidence.

That speaks to her inability to understand really really basic facts and evidence and reach the right conclusion.

That makes her unfit to govern.

Oh, I didn't mean she was detrimental to him-- obviously I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but it read to me like a case for listening to her instinct to humanize him and make him emotionally relatable, instead of listening to his most terminally online staffers' recs to follow whatever the latest right-wing social media fad is (in this case, sucking Elon's dick). Given that she's also a former TV anchor who's leaned into his anti-woke politics, it's possible she's contributing/enabling to all of this rather than acting as a counterweight, it's just hard to say until more journalists start worming their way into the inner circle and writing thinkpieces. A Biden-Trump rematch honestly seems like the best anyone can hope for at this point, which is pretty bleak, but also makes watching DeSantis get torn to pieces satisfying on a political level as well as an individual one.

Maybe I read a different story about Casey, Politico maybe? Yeah, she tries to humanize him, but she also keeps him isolated from staffers, donors, other campaign folks, etc etc. It never works out well when you're a politician with a spouse who keeps you guarded like a bank vault, just see John Edwards.

And I was hoping nobody would throw that pesky fact in my face.

Oh, I think the NYT story mentioned that (I didn't see anything in Politico?); to me it read more like a bunch of resentful lobbyists being bitchy on background because they weren't getting the exclusive access to the boss they thought they'd have. Especially given who his staffers and donors are, I don't think she'd be wrong to do that even if it were to the extent that the whiners say, because they're a bunch of nutjobs who've repeatedly shot him in the foot, while she really only seems to have been a positive for him so far.

And I was hoping nobody would throw that pesky fact in my face.

The whole conversation is dumb anyways, Telconi is just antagonizing Lumen as usual and making a big show of how the two of them are oil and water or whatever. I've known a lot of gay couples who do the same thing in public and then have the fieriest sex imaginable behind closed doors, so make of that what you will.
