Heating in summer???

Postby Mad hatters in jeans » Wed Jul 01, 2009 3:16 am

I dislike bloggy threads but something occurred that was so bizarre and odd I thought I would share it with you and see if you have ever had to deal with the same kind of thing.

I went out to get some food shopping, today is very hot forecast is for heat wave this week, and I can say with certainty that it's well over 20 degrees centigrade, I come back and the heating is on.
So I ask my flatmate "why is the heating on?"
He replies "I need my clothes dry by tomorrow"
Me "So why don't you put your clothes outside?" (We have plenty of Garden space and a long rail to hang clothes on)
Him "because it's also quite humid outside"
I walk away muttering about heating in the middle of summer, he hears me and starts swearing at me.
I'm like wtf?
And here I am.

I'm not really looking for advice, he gets pretty antsy when someone points out an obvious flaw in his reasoning so I’ll probably let this slip.
I just can't understand it, I mean maybe it's because I’m from a pretty energy conscious family, my parents gave me a shouting every time I used too much hot water etc, but I can't help wondering why he uses energy in such a useless manner.

Okay to be fair I’m not an energy fiend but I mean come on, the middle of summer? Really?

So I ask you folks, have you ever done anything like this in really warm weather? What are your reasons for why you do or don't do this?

Edit@ mini update, for some reason he game me strawberries and cream, so my wrath is averted. And he's now turned the heating off.

Kick him in the junk. Humidity won't matter if the sun shines on your laundry, the water will evaporate. Ifits THAT dire he can go to the damn laundry mat and put them in a dryer.

Put his clothes in the oven or microwave. It isn't humid in there.

I did wonder that the 5-10 degrees you make something hotter isn't going to noticeablely dry the clothes faster.

Apparently your flatmate would rather pay more for a heating bill than dropping a quarter or two (or whatever the unit of dryer operation is where you are) in a commercial dryer, which could not only do the job cheaper, but much faster.

Your flatmate's bit of a tool...and unbearably lazy.

If you share a heating bill with this guy I'd tear a strip of his back and tell him he can put his clothes outside to dry.
They'll get more air movement and probably dry faster that way.

I really don't like heat, so even if I don't pay the heating bill I'd probaly do the above anyways. I don't suffer fools in my personal space well.

I basically agreeing with every poster who said make the flatmate pay the bills this month. That's absolutley ridiculous. I don't knwo about you, but I come inside in the summer to cool off, not walk into an oven.

certainly is a waste of energy, i wish it was just him paying the bill, but it's shared between 6 of us.
Now that i come to think of it this isn't the first time he's pulled a stunt like this.
i like how every response has been an emphatic "oh that guy is a pillock".

That's the weird thing, he's put some of his clothes outside anyway, and put some on the radiators too. So he's actually not even sticking to his own point about it being humid??

Your flatmate is an idiot. The kind that automtically disagrees with advice that's given to him based on the fact he couldn't figure out for himself in the first place, so how could you know? Find a new one.
