I went out to get some food shopping, today is very hot forecast is for heat wave this week, and I can say with certainty that it's well over 20 degrees centigrade, I come back and the heating is on.
So I ask my flatmate "why is the heating on?"
He replies "I need my clothes dry by tomorrow"
Me "So why don't you put your clothes outside?" (We have plenty of Garden space and a long rail to hang clothes on)
Him "because it's also quite humid outside"
I walk away muttering about heating in the middle of summer, he hears me and starts swearing at me.
I'm like wtf?
And here I am.
I'm not really looking for advice, he gets pretty antsy when someone points out an obvious flaw in his reasoning so I’ll probably let this slip.
I just can't understand it, I mean maybe it's because I’m from a pretty energy conscious family, my parents gave me a shouting every time I used too much hot water etc, but I can't help wondering why he uses energy in such a useless manner.
Okay to be fair I’m not an energy fiend but I mean come on, the middle of summer? Really?
So I ask you folks, have you ever done anything like this in really warm weather? What are your reasons for why you do or don't do this?

and how is a hot home helping his clothes dry? are they hanging over the radiator (instead of the rail)?

Deschenek wrote::< That is just a waste of usable energy that guy is definately paying the electric bill next month.

JarVik wrote:If you share a heating bill with this guy I'd tear a strip of his back and tell him he can put his clothes outside to dry.
They'll get more air movement and probably dry faster that way.
I really don't like heat, so even if I don't pay the heating bill I'd probaly do the above anyways. I don't suffer fools in my personal space well.

Intangelon wrote:Apparently your flatmate would rather pay more for a heating bill than dropping a quarter or two (or whatever the unit of dryer operation is where you are) in a commercial dryer, which could not only do the job cheaper, but much faster.
Your flatmate's bit of a tool...and unbearably lazy.
