I think it can work with all buildings, I like the look of Boston City Hall
why? Its so uninviting and off putting.
Government buildings should have a welcoming aura and a whimsical feel to them such as this

I love modern Mediterranean architecture, because it's a really cool style (White walls, large windows, black frames), and how they use white/beige bricks is cool. It's simple but also really rich at the same time.

Gothic, it's for superior to Romanesque architecture.

Like I said before I simply like the aesthetic brutalist architecture gives off
I disagree I don't think government buildings should look like that, personally I feel like the buildings you showed look too in your face and overcompensating

Me too, I don't really like those buildings either. The Texas one is a little better though because the pale pink makes it much prettier. But the town hall is just plain concrete and is just brutalist architecture but fancier and with a dome.

How are they in face and overcompensating? To me they are inviting and not imposing. It gives the impression of openness like the government should be.
What about this?

I'm pretty sure both buildings' designers would have been offended if you called their designs 'whimsical'

How is the latter brutalist?

I don't really know that's just the feeling I get from them, they just feel like their too big and overly complicated in their design, maybe I'm just fucking depressed but I hate the look of buildings that are trying to appear welcoming and warm
I like the last one better than the rest it feels more toned down than the others but I still don't particularly enjoy looking at it

I think government buildings should appear welcoming and warm. In a Democracy it gives the aura of transparency that you can come in and observe your Government. Boston City hall doesn't do that.
What's too big and overly complicated about them?

Like I said before I buildings trying to look like that disgust me I simply hate the aesthetic, also I despise democracy so feel free to take guesses as to how that influences my tastes
All the towers that jutt out of them, the dozens of pillars, the different colors over them, all the small details it all just feels far to much on a building, the one you sent in this is possibly the worst one yet

No wonder Boston City hall appeals to you so much. Its exact opposite of what most want in government building.
The Iowa Capitol is so colorful and alluring.

So many choices, and as some have noted, it depends on the purpose, as good architecture should.
Residences: I liked some of Frank Lloyd Wright's things. And sometimes I just like rustic cabins in the woods that blend in.
As for larger structures, while many are visually appealing and even stunning, they just don't seem to function, for me, anyway. I could do without the grand skyscrapers in that sense. And I'm not sure I want artificial landscaping anyway, so maybe just bury that sort of thing out of sight. But bridges will be bridges, though, and I like some of the modern trends there, whatever it's called.
But what about artificial environments? How does architecture apply to things like O'Neill cylinders? What about lower gravity locations (moon, mars)? Not that this is a current problem, of course.

I like buildings that are simple and don't look like their trying to be something special, brutalism accomplishes this while almost every other style doesn't, Boston Hall looks like it was built to accomplish a function Iowa city Hall looks like a tacky palace wannabe

To each their own but I remember visiting Boston and hating looked at it. It did not look like city hall for a city that was the birthplace of the Revolution. It reminded me of something from a dictatorial state and gave off the vibe of control and evil.

Damn, went from something I've barely heard about to something that could get into an favorite.
Anyways, gotta give Googie Architecture a favor by saying it is an favorite, and I would say Neoclassicism, Neo-Futurism, High tech architecture, New Classical, and Contemporary Architecture as some of my favorites.

My favorite styles of architecture are probably neoclassical, Victorian, and gothic. However, an underrated style of architecture, in my opinion, is Moorish architecture. Moorish architecture is very colorful and elaborately decorated, so it may give buildings a lot of character.

I enjoy Art Nouveau, Victorian and Edwardian architecture most of all, but I have a special love for Gothic, European and Asian Vernacular as well. My least liked are Brutalism, Modernism, Avant-Garde, and International styles.
