Not to mention when a man fails at something, he is seen as disgrace to men. I just love the whiny feminists who say A but hold back the B

He is? Since when? What century are you living in?

My failing at video games and basketball makes me a disgrace to men?

To straight men, anyway. :p I wouldn't give much weight to the pompous statements of a 19-year-old like Central S. He's probably not getting a lot of the B at the moment.

Do not be mistaken. I respect females and I believe they should be treated equal. And while this book claims to want to "end sexism," I see it nearly as an attack on society, a promotion of socialism, and somehow tying patriarchies with capitalism. I agree that women should get paid the same amount for equal work. I agree women should not be discriminated against in the workforce. But at the same time, give me a break.

Men usually get screwed over during divorces; women have the advantage of claiming rape when it wasn't (not always, but alot); and men have to live in a world where if you happen to have a lot of sexual partners, your considered a sexist and somehow a "chauvinist pig."

What I think annoyed me most is that the book seems to blame all the woes of women on capitalism and patriarchies. And while both are highly imperfect in many, many ways, that doesn't necessarily warrant the blame there.

So NSG what do you think of feminism? Do you consider yourself a feminist? If so why? If not, why not?

God you're a fucking idiot. Seriously, I don't think there is a single intelligent, enlightening thought in this whole OP. The fact that you have the cognitive capabilities to use the internet is itself astounding.

Yeah some guys act so surprised when I do well.
Then if I play a game I'm crap at, they'll say 'You were just unlucky, have another go.' 'Umm...well you didn't do so bad then, you nearly got it.' 'Oh wow, you didn't come last this time. You're getting really good at this.'
WTF guys, I'm not going to cry just because I suck at a game. I don't mind a little banter.

Very true. I would siggest that you are, however, quite mistaken as to what the definition of "feminism" is. You might find consulting a dictionary useful.

Ah, reading further in, I find that you don't actually have any explanation other than bigotry for why women should be excluded.

I don't know if this is true of you, but I've found that people who say stuff like this usually just don't want to acknowledge the areas in which men and women are not treated as equal.

I am a proud male feminist. I can't comment on the specific book mentioned in the OP, but other works I have read by bell hooks have been quite persuasive.

Regardless:

1. We live in a sexist society that enforces gender roles hurting all genders.

2. Feminists (with perhaps fringe exceptions that I'd disqualify from feminism) seek to shatter the oppression of all genders by gender roles AND equity among all genders.

Why does this twist so many bollocks?
