Russia can't even do a land invasion of Sweden without going through Norway or Finland. If they do it; it'd would bring the Hammer down with Norway as a founding member of NATO and Finland about to join. So the only options they have are an air invasion, a sea invasion, or missiles. Now,

• Russia probably doesn't have enough missiles to split between bombarding Ukraine and Sweden.
• The Baltic Fleet's 71st Red Star Landing Ship Brigade has 6 landing ships and currently three of them are stuck in the Black Sea because Turkey shut the Bosporus.
• Sweden's Military is of a better quality than the Russian Army.
• The Russian Airborne, if they go for an air assault, would have to deal with the better-equipped and maintained Swedish Air Force. And as Market Garden and Hostomel showed the world, an airborne assault without army support just ends in the defenders overrunning the Paratroopers.

In short, the Russians are bullshitting hard because they know they can't get at Sweden either.

i mean, "this won't work" and "this is utterly fucking stupid" didn't stop russia from invading ukraine. invading countries and said invasion turning out to be a fucking awful idea has been a part of russian culture since around 1975.

That was a hell of a dive.Weirdly enough that article was skeptical of its own reporting. it cited another article, but then gave mainly different arguments. the supreriority of the Russian article was mainly that the T-62 with upgraded inferred sights, is simpler and easier to use than western tanks, thus is better for mobiks and militia to use. that's the whole argument. Which is true in part, which is why western tanks are taking so long to deliver because of training requirements.


the rest, is all a load of nonsense that comes from a Military Watch article that just goes off the hinge on several fronts.


it says the T-62 was superior to any western analogues of the day, which is technically true as in the 60s the west was still using old Shermans and the British chieftain. But is completely erroneous as none of those tanks are still in use.

It cites Israel as rejecting western tanks in the 70s as proof of western inferiority, despite though Israel only ever considered the British chieftain, and the Merkva was developed instead because Britain sold those to all the Arab world, not performance issues.


and the best part is the argument that the T-62 will outperform western analogues, because Western tanks are intended as "infantry support" and the T-62 is anti-armor. Which is an argument so utterly stupid I scarcely have the words to describe it. The Russians have been getting their assess kicked, because their armor doctrine is so utterly shit, and they just can't seem to grasp that concept.
