The US was not there to commit genocide in either Vietnam or Afghanistan though. Even ignoring the whole thing with there being little suitable terrain to fight a guerilla war outside the cities in in Ukraine in the way there were in Vietnam and Afghanistan, the bigger problem with guerillas is that hiding among civilians doesn't work when the other guy's main goal is killing the civilians.

Earlier in the war, it was found that non-Russians comprised a disproportionate number of deaths among Russian casualties, and many were used as essentially cannon fodder. Crimean Tatars are one very notable example.

To be fair, we've heard that half of Wagner Group has been wiped out several times now. Granted, they could all be true and that new recruits may have taken the place of those who died, but just saying.

It's kind of like the "Russia's economy will give way any day now!" thing. It doesn't work like that, and it was never intended to work like that.
