This chain is very illuminating. Russia claims that the war that it launched against Ukraine was to denazify the later, but this user doesn't even buy that propaganda narrative: he actually acknowledges that only a few members might actually be Nazis, but he's still proud of the private contractor group who is fighting against Ukraine without proper reason whatsoever. Imagine being smart enough to see through the Kremlin lies and propaganda, but still be proud of the Wagner barbarians who brutally disregard human life, be it of their enemies who are merely defending their motherland, their own forcefully conscripted soldiers, or of the innocent Ukrainian civilians that are caught in between.

One is trying to break away from it such corrupt state and the other does not appreciate it.

There are many reasons why Russia wants to conquer or, at the very least, destroy Ukraine. First, to keep alive the disgusting dreams of revanchism over the territories that broke free after the fall of the Soviet Union; if Ukraine breaks away, asserts its independence and cherishes its unique identity, many will also try (and are already) to flee from Russian overbearing influence. Second, to make sure a Westernized Ukraine, free from oligarchs and oppression can instill the Russian society to demand the same for Russia, something that the Putin circle is not interested in. Finally, to steal the resources, in particular those in the Eastern side of the Dnipro, to further deepen the pockets of loyal Russian oligarchs. There's no reasonable justification for being neutral in this state of affairs.
