Yes? Why wouldn't he? He wasn't President, so it wasn't as if the invasion occurred on his watch.

If he were President, do you really think his superiority complex would've allowed him to stand by as Russia invaded Ukraine? No.

Russia knew this, and would not have done it if Trump was in power.

The invasion would have happened regardless as oil consumption (how the Russian military is funding) was increasing on a global scale, whereas it was oil consumption was low when Trump was busy ruining the US economy, deepening the economic recession caused by the COVID pandemic. Unless you’re arguing Trump would have been able to push COVID into an extended depression more severe than his record of 16% employment and flatten oil prices on a global scale, the US president didn’t really have a role in Putin’s belief that it was an opportune time to invade.

Now, when it comes to doing something, what have the MAGA Republicans been saying the entire time? That the invasion of Ukraine isn’t America’s responsibility or concern, and Ukrainians don’t deserve our help. Trump abandoned our Kurdish allies to Russian and Syrian forces (with the intention that Turkey and Syria would launch an invasion, not just out of carelessness) because he was only interested in the oil (his words, not mine), severely undermined our and the Islamic Republic’s position in Afghanistan without securing substantial concessions, declared victory against ISIS while they were still fighting in multiple states, and most relevantly, was impeached because he extorted Ukraine by withholding military aid until Zelenskyy somehow dug up dirt on Biden—y’know, not something his ego would let him forget just a few years later. Why would he had such a magical change of heart within mere days when many Americans already doubted Ukraine stood a chance?

However, after World War Two, the city and wider region were placed under Soviet administration. The Soviets renamed it Kaliningrad after Mikhail Kalinin, one of the leaders of the Bolshevik revolution.

After the Soviet Union collapsed, Kaliningrad became part of the territory of Russia, making it an exclave - an area that is geographically separated from a country's main territory - located between Poland and Lithuania.

Kaliningrad is strategically important to Moscow because it houses the Russian Baltic Fleet at the port of Baltiysk and is the country's only ice-free European port.

On Tuesday, Poland's Committee on Standardisation of Geographical Names Outside the Republic of Poland said it was recommending with immediate effect that the city be known in Poland as Królewiec and the exclave's wider area as Obwód Królewiecki.

It said the name Kaliningrad was unrelated to either the city or the region and had an "emotional and negative" resonance in Poland.

Because Moscow imposed a communist regime on Poland after World War Two, the relatives of the victims were unable to publicly discuss or find anything out about the crime for five decades. Russia only acknowledged its responsibility for the massacre in 1990.

Although the state committee's recommendation is not binding, it is expected that Polish state bodies will now refer to Kaliningrad as Królewiec. Poland's foreign ministry has issued a positive assessment of the name change.

Ukraine unit says Russian brigade flees Bakhmut outskirts

KYIV, May 10 (Reuters) - A Ukrainian military unit said on Wednesday it had routed a Russian infantry brigade from frontline territory near Bakhmut, claiming to confirm an account by the head of Russia's Wagner private army that the Russian forces had fled.

Moscow has not commented on the reports that its 72nd Separate Motor-rifle Brigade had abandoned its positions on the southwestern outskirts of Bakhmut.

Russia's ministry of defence did not immediately reply to a request for comment, and Reuters was unable to independently confirm the situation on the ground.

A Russian brigade is typically formed of several thousand troops. The eastern Ukrainian city has been the primary target of Moscow's huge winter offensive and scene of the bloodiest ground combat in Europe since World War Two.

Russian mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, who has repeatedly accused Moscow's regular armed forces of failing to adequately support his private army leading the fight in Bakhmut, said on Tuesday that the Russian brigade had abandoned its positions.

"Our army is fleeing. The 72nd Brigade pissed away three square km this morning, where I had lost around 500 men," Prigozhin said.
