Not just unimpressive - it would be expected, just like I'd expect the Abrams from the 1980s to be better than a tank from the 1940s - 40 years prior.
And even that's not really accurate. the chassis was designed in the 1980s. The Abrams has gone through multiple renovation projects, and is still one of the, if not the most advanced tanks on the battlefield.
