I like long walks in the sun, but a tallboy makes them better. Could I do with walks without beer and still enjoy them? Absolutely. But then I'm just going to be dealing with some other person who thinks they know what's best for me, whining that I'm going to give myself skin cancer.

Look i just want to stop being put into weird invented socioeconomic situations of increasing absurdity. Yes sir we will kill you over a plant a beer fucking porn all to keep me safe. Yes i am much safer hitting room temp after being shot over a naturally growing plant yeasty boys and porn. Also like tots wont cause me to feel more under represented

A genuinely tolerant society, therefore, should be deeply intolerant of things like religious moral codes whose primary purpose is the subjugation of human individuality to arbitrary tradition.

There can be no compromise, no permanent peace between people who want to organise society rationally on the basis of real human lives and people who want to organise society based on what their magical sky father whispered to a bunch of middle-aged men centuries ago. There is no genuine middle ground between those who seek to repress and those who decline to be repressed.

As I keep telling the religious folks in this thread, we do not want to feel better about our lives. We want our lives to be better.

We want to have things that we enjoy, and right now the main force trying to separate us from those things is people like Floofybit, like Luminesa, like Fahran. And I don't think it's a coincidence that all of these people lean traditionalist-religious.

It's strange to see people speaking with confidence about things that they clearly don't know anything about.

Like when people who don't drink talk about how alcohol-free drinks "hit different." Or when they insist that a territory with hundreds of thousands of people living on it no longer exists.

Addiction to alcohol is a problem. Drinking alcohol every once in a while is not. There is a big difference between the two.

I cannot say I have a good solution of my own, but I can say that outright banning it is not going to help. We already tried that, and it seriously did not work. The trick is that the law does not decide what people do. People decide what people do. This applies to a lot of issues, but basically it is better to convince people not to drink first and then ban it, when enough people agree that the ban won't be completely ignored like in Prohibition. If that's what you want to do anyway.

Note that I personally do not drink, but I believe in others' right to do so in moderation.

The government doesn't control culture. I'd say it's the other way around. Movements and ideas need to find agreement with enough people in order to get anywhere. Remember: The people who are supposed to enforce such a ban are also people, no matter how many of them you hire.

Yes, legislation comes from a place of public sentiment and momentum, and very often, hysteria that leads to bad public policy, such as Prohibition and the Mann Act. Yet, sometimes, the government arrogates to itself power to ban things without any public momentum behind it, and then marshals or attempts to marshal public opinion in favor of the ban afterward. The Drug War is a clear case of this. There was no public push for a marijuana ban, for instance, but we got one, anyway.

Right, so, let us just tick off all statutes inspired by fundamental moral premise like murder, theft, and rape until we are left only with tax and traffic law, where again, we can probably still establish instinctual pre-Hammurabi influence for some of those as well.

While I don't know the mormon view of consuming miniscule (like, impossible to get drunk on) amounts of alcohol, you could outright buy a bottle of chambord, lightly boil the alcohol out, and you've got a very unique flavour infusion for a lot of things.

Alcohol is a staple of tradition and meals across the world, banning it would not only deal a blow to a major industry, but also cause alot of unrest and bootlegging, even with an advanced police force, the will of the people is stronger. Alcohol should remain legal, maybe up the drinking age minimums to stop young deaths, but from then on its your own damn fault if you die to alcohol
