Simply false. Big bang cosmology in a universe with zero integral curvature can start from vacuum without violating energy conservation.

Indeed, it doesn't. You're implying evolution is a conscious force.

No harsh feelings though.

His implication was probably accidental, but you're right that there's no conscious force at work behind natural selection. It's a response to environmental factors in which random traits become more desirable in order to promote survival over the original strain. Imagine a million years of minor changes to a single design, and you'll (general, not you specifically) have the idea.

Well, I'm learning about evolution in science class. And before we did anything the teacher wrote the question on the broad, "Do belivie in evolution?" And one of the kids in my class, Tim yelled out "Evolution doesn't exiest! We're not relted to apes!" Well the whole grade doesn't belive in evolution. (Most kids in my grade are ether Chirstain, Athest, or Hindu). But personally I don't know if I belivie or not.
Here are the theories on how we, humans started out.

Evolution
We slowly evolved from apes from a prossess of millions of years.

Creation
We were created by God.

We would like to know who's right, but these are only theories. We don't know for sure if any are true are or not.

The whole ape thing is just a smear campaign run by evolutionphobists. We didn't really evolve from apes as we know it today. Instead, we slowly branched off from Old World Monkeys which is also what apes branched off from

Tim is wrong. Evolution happens all the time, and we are distant cousins to apes. We know that we gradually evolved from a common ancestor hominid, who themselves evolved from other animals who themselves evolved from fish and so on back to the beginning of life.

Feel free to educate yourself and your unfortunate classmate, Tim.

Not quite. We didn't evolve from Apes - both modern Apes and ourselves had an ancestor in common. It probably looked pretty apelike, since (let's face it) if we added some hair we'd be pretty apelike, but it was as different from modern Apes as it was from us.

Also, evolution is not a theory; it's an observed fact. In an unfortunately large number of cases, bacteria have become resistant or even immune to some of our best antibiotics - that's evolution in action. (Don't let the Micro/Macro argument sway you - it's complete bullshit. The mechanism of change is identical in both cases, making the distinction worthless.) The Theory is Darwin's Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.

That's a very strong theory with a lot of evidence behind it, from fossils to biological development models, to pretty much all of modern biology - and we know that works. Compare that to the (hah) competing theory of "God". That theory has, let's see, NO EVIDENCE AT ALL to support it, save an old, often mistranslated, and in many places demonstrably wrong book.

You can make up your own mind. But please do take the evidence into account.

Well Tim is wrong. Micro-Evolution has been observed. He might be talking about Macro but I doubt it. He probably read the usual trash you can find on the Net.

Belief is not something evolution will try to force. Best thing to do is to continue learning. In time you will make your own opinions.

As others mentioned; we didn't evolve from an ape. That phrase is used by the creationists all the time in an attempt to swing your vote with the image; there is a chimp. It had a baby and there were homo sapians! If you can find a timeline of skulls, you might see it offers a pretty strong suggesting to the possibility of the evolutionary process.

Take a look into Darwin's Finches; you might be surprised.....

I totally understand why some people don't like evolution. I mean, our nearest relatives being a bunch of monkeys?

If we could just tweak the facts a little, perhaps say that humans evolved from twelve-foot tall unicorns who ended the reign of the satanic dinosaurs and tentacle monsters, pooped golden bricks and urinated Guinness, then I think even the most fervent Catholic would instantly believe the theory.

Besides, it's not that much more tweaking than what we liberals have done with the 'evidence' for climate change, is it?
