The calculation is correct though. For every 2 present votes/absent you subtract 1 needed vote. And atm there are 5 absent/present votes.

5 presents gives 215 votes. Since 434-5 is 429 which when divided by 2 is 214.5 round up and ya got 215

Absolutely. Nothing about this last week has given any indication that the Republicans have lost their taste for theater over actual accomplishment.

Apparently the calls where from Trump to Biggs and Gaetz of which the content can be assumed to let McCarthy be speaker
