Twenty-five people have been arrested in raids across Germany on suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government.
The group of far-right and ex-military figures are said to have prepared to storm the parliament building, the Reichstag, and seize power.
A minor aristocrat described as Prince Heinrich XIII, 71, is alleged to have been central to their plans.
According to federal prosecutors, he is one of two alleged ringleaders among those arrested across 11 German states.
The plotters are said to include members of the extremist Reichsbürger [Citizens of the Reich] movement, which has long been in the sights of German police over violent attacks and racist conspiracy theories. They also refuse to recognise the modern German state.
Other suspects came from the QAnon movement who believe their country is in the hands of a "deep state".

Germany on Wednesday detained 25 members and supporters of a far-right group that prosecutors said were preparing a violent overthrow of the state, with some members suspected of plotting an armed attack on the parliament.
Prosecutors said the group was inspired by the deep state conspiracy theories of QAnon and the Reichsbuerger, who do not recognise the legitimacy of modern Germany, insisting the far larger "Deutsche Reich" still existed despite the Nazis' defeat in World War Two.
The plot envisaged a former member of a German royal family, identified as Heinrich XIII P. R. under Germany's privacy law, as the leader in a future state while another suspect, Ruediger v. P., was the head of the military arm, the prosecutors' office said.

Good to see these violent coup plotters being foiled. Though personally I am saddened to see the poisoned conspiracy of QAnon has spread to Europe to such an extent that it is undermining democracy there as it has in the US. Surely it is about time the people behind QAnon were brought to justice?

There is no requirement that the Fourth Reich be a carbon copy of the NSDAP (if one does come about), only that it be illiberal like the previous three Reichs were.

It can't be stopped but only delayed. I approve of the noble efforts of restoring an empire if democracy has failed- which we have abundant evidence of it's mediocrity.

Wow, unreal.

I cannot believe that, trying to restore the empire. Never change Germany, never change *sigh*

...No, they seem to have been stopped pretty easily.

I’m not really familiar with the details of Qanon - other than it was a troll of boomers that got vastly out of hand - but I didn’t think it had anything to do with Germany.

Extreme right does (dumb) extreme right things, more news at 8!

In all seriousness this is the same as the extreme right over here calling for the establishment of their own schools, sports institutes and their own "independent nation with only like minded individuals".

It's once and for all proves that the extreme right is indeed as dangerous as initially thought and in my opinion there is no reason not to start preemptively stopping them.

Good riddance.
Also, apparently to the german news media Tagesschau, they have 52 suspects by now, including judges as well as former and current military members.

It traveled over because a lot of people here think they have to imitate everything born inside the USA, regardless for how little sense it makes in our local context.
But the followers of the Q had an easy time integrating themselves into the conspirancy theorists and contrarians of here, which I personally suspect are funded by the Moscow Government, but regardless, they are quite a pain.
Did even hinder rescue efforts during a catastrophic flooding in the Rhineland earlier this year.

You look at any country's military and you will find a bunch of far-right extremists.

I'd like to note, that these people were most likely less organized, less dangerous and less in general then the guys, who stormed the US Capitol in 2021. Not to mention, that they have less, some might say no, public support.
I mean, allegedly, Heinrich XIII. Prinz Reuß was central - his Wikipedia article is not even a day old.

I think it's the bit where they were plotting a coup that's concerning.

Luckily, the german military is chronically trash(Apologies to actual trash for the comparision, but last time they had good equipment was after the unification with east germany, since then they had access to the soviet equipment) so anything that could be taken seriously coup-wise from them could be easily dealt with.
However, using it as a disposal site for those who weren't useful for anything else has it's drawback, like having them
fall easily for infiltrations by extremist groups.

True, but at the same time not all too surprising, either.

Or participate in one. I know, that I am committing whataboutism with that previous sentence, but it is known, that the German Armed Forces aren't exactly the most liberal bunch of people (like any armed forces in the world, I might add) - it is a known problem, the BMVg is taking action against the most extreme parts, some always slip through the cracks.
Also, I'd like to note, that the "soldiers" involved in this were, to my current point of knowledge, "ex-soldiers."

Well maybe one of the leaders will become popular in prison and then sweep to election victory.

QAnon conspiracy theories have striking similarities with early 20th century anti-Semitic media—it’s likely either sourced from The Protocols of the Elders of Zion or from Nazi propaganda based on the text. Given the role of neo-Nazis in creating the post-Cold War white nationalist movement, it’s not as surprising as it first appears. Since Germany prohibits explicit Nazi propaganda, it’s possible that foreign derivatives like American neofascism are more influential than German Nazism in the country.
