Haven't met one in real life (well, that I know of), but I know a couple on here (one of whom is in my region), and they are reasonably adjusted individuals. I don't understand the hate that many people seem to have for furries, to be quite honest.

Go with your primitive curiosity and allow yourself to go a few "deep dive" in the internet and you'll see.

Though I agree, we also had a furry based nation in our Region and he/she is a well-mannered player.

By the way, have more respect for fursuiters. Those things run an average of several thousand dollars. Some suiters spend $10,000+, and of that most are not sexual either; some people just want to live as their fursonas.

So, a waste of money?

Everyone, if they aren't hurting you or anyone else, it ain't your business. I'd say I won't say whether or not I am one, but that's pointless, so why yes, I technically fall in the category, although I'm not a fan of the masks or anything, they creep me out, sorry all those who like the masks.

I am a floof (which is me being floofier than y'all and having a nation full of anthropomorphic animals) but not a furry. The furry community, well not the furry community specifically, but any community scares me. Honestly, any communities that I have to have social interaction, whether physical or digital, I will stay away from every time. Especially scary communities where people get political and say spooky things depending on your values.

Being arguably furry both as a nation and as a person, it’s a label I choose not to associate with often. It’s within the same sense that I’m 998 episodes into One Piece and choose not to associate with the terms “anime fan” or “weeaboo” outside controlled instances or that I lean on the side of anti-globalism, but wouldn’t publicly call myself a “nationalist”. It just generates the wrong impression with a lot of laypeople — it does the same even in my own ears sometimes.

Also to be specific, this nation is — by the narrowest of margins — furry, but that’s not really the focus for my nations. It’s the product of over twelve years of roleplay lorebuilding and several cancelled attempts at writing for multiple properties that I’ve spent quite some time trying to put into writing.

They still walk around in their costumes in public and go to hotels with other people in them.
Again: they could be much worse in my opinion, I just wish they kept it more to themselves, don't be up in everyone's faces about it.

How is that any different from sports fans walking around in jerseys? It's not a controversy when some bloke walks down the street wearing Yankees shit.

Unlike sports, it’s not uncommon to assume fursuiting is a sexual endeavor.
Though I can’t thoroughly deny that’s what any given individual with one is attempting, I would like to point out to others that — like an actual suit and as expressed above — fur suits are incredibly expensive and attempting to do anything unsavory in them whether rented or purchased is an irresponsible financial risk.

So I was working an MLB Fanfest and trying to describe it to a non-American and halfway through she went, "Oh so it's a Star Trek convention for baseball fans?"

Furries are alright in my book. The real question is what do we think about Albanians? Personally, the jury is still out on whether they actually exist. Seems more like a gag if you ask me, but idk.

I mean, I know people who are furries (most of them being my cousins friends) , although I'm not a furry myself. Most of them I get to talk to are really nice. As long as they don't piss me off, I won't piss them off. So I am on good terms with furries at the moment

Fractalnavel wrote:A few years back I ran into a purple fox at a local store. Given how unusual that was (nothing I ever saw outside of a con), it seems reasonable that it aroused my curiosity. But that immediately made me feel uncomfortable, since it seemed that the thing to do was to pretend nothing was out of the ordinary. Like someone you know suddenly dying their hair bright blue. Or someone who appears pregnant - maybe? - but has not said anything about it (I have witnessed the result of someone offering congratulations only to have it turn out to be weight gain). I'm never sure what I'm supposed to notice or not these days. Not because there's anything wrong with any of that, but just plain human interest in the unusual. Also not sure if I would address them as whoever they are under the costume (is it a costume?), or as whatever they are presenting as - as a - what? How does that work anyway? Just confused. In the end it seems best to just act like I would around anyone I don't know with whom I have no reason to interact. I feel a bit weird even mentioning it here, but since it was asked...

It's OK to talk to them as a person in a costume. If you want to play along with the fantasy and pretend they really are a giant purple fox, some people might get a kick out of that, but it's not a social necessity. At the end of the day, it is a role play and they're not actually a fox. The myth that fursonas are equivalent to gender identities is just fear-mongering from people that want to present trans acceptance as some kind of slippery slope.

I'm not involved in furry subculture, but I've met people that are. Never been to a dedicated furry con, but have been to cons that had some furry stuff alongside other fandoms. Talked to plenty of people that make or collect furry art. I've never met anyone who truly thought they were an animal. Met a few people that got way too sexual with their furry fandom, but nobody who genuinely believed they were an animal.

Wearing a fursuit to go shopping is a little eccentric, but there's still a very high probability that it's just something they do for fun now and then.

Russian furry community is suprisingly acceptable and vigilant when it comes to these sadists whose name starts with a Z and ends with -philes, furthermore, they’re very helpful people.
I also like spending absurd money on commissioned art because it makes me feel better.

Im friends with this one furry whos a really great 3d modeler and they are pretty chill, I think the internet just hates them because their reputation being cringey and cringe, which can represent a big portion of the communities. There are two sides to the community, one is the furries who are normal people, talented, cool and fine to have around. The other half are the I am not going to talking about these them that. Yeah so a discord moderator ended up banning one of the servers I was in due to the fact we outlawed furries, since furries were the most likely perpetrators of NSFW related or sexual TOS breaking things. The moderator was a furry, so thats kind of a problem. Personally I dont have any negative opinions on furries and furries are fine, but some furries are not fine and they should not be furry furries fruies
