Would you go to a NS Con? Why or why not?

Everything I know of that has a large history and large following usually has some sort of convention. For example, Twitch, Youtube, etc... (which are all younger than NS). I think Nationstates deserve a convention too.

So, on that topic, would you attend a Nationstates convention? Why or why not?

Personally, I'd go, but for some odd reason, I feel as if I'd be more careful, knowing I have been death-threated on here before.

Also, Mods, is this long enough? Sorry, I didn't really think. I think its a good question though, so that's why I redid it.

I would not feel safe at a NS con.
With how heated some of this shit gets I give good odds that someone will be stabbed.

Only if it's like a masquerade ball where the attendees can remain incognito. No way in hell I'm outing myself to 8,281,643 people I've never met before.

There used to be meets in the old days, Brits tended to meet up in pubs, Americans tended to meet up in parks. Stopped around '08 or so.

No.

I've got no interest in doxxing myself to a community that has extremists in it.

NSG already is pretty much defined by "I'm going to aggressively and obnoxiously proselytize my views at you until you say something that could be, in a stretch, considered an actionable offense and then gleefully report you as a final triumph," so I can only imagine that many of these same people are also the kinds who will "do their part" for the revolution by actively harassing your employer(s) because you disagree with them. As a professional, I'm not interested in this.

Also, the smell probably wouldn't be good. I've been to SDCC and it was funky.

To be fair, this is a quiet time of day. It's often much more active during the European/North American day.

Por que no los dos? Shoving a bunch of extremists into a single building sounds like a convention I'd love to attend (from a safe distance away.)

NationStates has a worldwide player base, it has people from all different cultures, languages and countries. Therefore, I believe that an NS Con could only work if it were 100% online, as not all players would be able to travel to other countries or even would be able to converse smoothly with fluent English.

Would I go to an in-person NS Con? Unfortunately, I don't have the money to travel to another country, so no.

Yes
If it was in the UK where I live (preferably Birmingham since its a 40 minute train ride from me), and if it had lots of security and police due to the amount of extremists on NS, and my parents were around me since I'm 14
security is taken seriously over here, at theme parks over here they check your bags, they suspect a tiny thing, they search you more, so thankfully if it was in the UK security is really good, even if Civil Rights fell from Average to Below Average

I went to two of them. They had mods at them and everything. On the first one we found Jennifer Government and signed it and sent it back to Max for reasons. Who knows if he ever got it or what he thought.

Anyway, I enjoyed those hangouts. But that was a different time. Less aggression for aggression's sake. This was never the Algonquin Round Table but there were more good faith posters back then and the shitposters had a sense of humor that was more sophisticated than a 12 year old who figured out how to get a rise out of the adults. I'm less inclined to think it will be as chill as they were back then.

Pretty much my exact thoughts on it. I would be more inclined to go if it was still as it was back then. Nowadays, it is a definite no.

I went to one here in the states back in 2006(?). It wasn't too bad, but I doubt I'd have made the effort again in those days, and definitely not now.

Autographed cards for sale, €20!

I'm very likely to turn a profit on such an event, so yes, I will.

I'm not entirely sure if I want to attend an NS convention, given all of the points already raised here: even if I did, the odds of it being hosted anywhere near to where I live are the same odds that there is a world tour that actually includes Africa (and not just Cairo or Cape Town): very very low, and given I can't afford to travel, that basically prevents me from attending an in-person NS convention.

Now, if it were to be near my neck of the woods, or if it were online... I might pop by for a bit, I might not. Might be cool to see people showing off their awesome graphic design skills and meeting up with local NSers in my area for an hour or two before the cops come by to shut the convention down.

Well the only person I met from this site did a suicide by mod soon after dinner.

I would go to meet particular people, a convention, not so much.

Listen, I love cons as much as the guy next door.

But we do not need a con for a game about made-up nations. We already have the UN for that. /s

Jokes aside, a NS con is a bad idea. Considering what the game was born from, and how many users are in reality minors, it would not feel safe.
