I mean between Charles and William as King I'd have preferred William, but that speech has made that opinion a bit less absolute.

Original post

Buckingham Palace has issued a statement reading "Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision".

Prince Charles has travelled to his mother's bedside at her summer home in Balmoral, Scotland. Prince William, Princess Anne, and other senior royals are also known to be making the trip.

The Speaker of the House of Commons has interrupted debate so that the House can offer its thoughts and prayers.

New Prime Minister Liz Truss has issued a statement reading "My thoughts - and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom - are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time"

So the United Kingdom is currently bracing itself for the likelihood that we're about to lose our longest-serving monarch.

Opinions on this will no doubt differ, depending on whether individuals are monarchists, republicans, agnostic about monarchy, or from a country where the Queen remains head of state. This is a thread where you can discuss all of the issues arising - but remember to keep that discussion within the site rules, and if the Queen does die, remember that the site moderation team will likely be strict in applying those rules, as we are with the death of any prominent public figure.

Right?

The funny thing about these republicans is that they whine so much about the royal family being wealthy when everyone else is struggling, but the whole reason it's hard for people to pay the bills these days is because of people they elected. Policies they enabled by voting in loons. The royal family has nothing to do with it. Elizabeth and Charles didn't lobby for Brexit, the people chose their own present burdens.

"The funny thing about these republicans," he says, "is how they support the Tories and Brexit"

Perhaps give that one another think.

I haven't bothered because it's a fucking meme that's not worth wasting time on addressing.

Or, maybe, American conceptions of government aren't the only ones that exist and have any historical and political weight. For that matter, American conceptions of constitutional government aren't even the first form of constitutional government in the first place considering British constitutionalism predates it by centuries.

It is. It really is. Look at Harry, especially in Irak. Fellow soldiers ended up hating his guts, especially after he quickly left the army because he still wasn't doted on enough to his tastes.

In other words, once more, peoples deserve special treatments, up to the "right" to rule an entire country, for giving themselves the trouble of being born because "reasons" . Yeah, you're right, it's indeed a fucking meme not worth addressing to believe in this.

I ain't American mate, tho. French, Italian, Spanish, Russians, etc, etc, etc, all of us agree on the simple fact that a constitution needs to be written to have any worth. Calling what the English have a constitution is an abuse of the term, to be quite honest.

We may wish to consider that the land in question does not require royalty to be useful.

Sounds about right.

It was not composed by his mistress (she was already her wife by this point), she commissioned others to make it to, as mentioned earlier, celebrate the successful surgery on his anal fistula. The composer of the song was Lully (who if you enjoy theater you might know since he composed a lot of the musics played in the most famous plays at the time) and it was a nun, Madame de Brinon, who wrote the lyrics.

Ok so they aren’t as rich as they could be if they exploited their vast landholdings to the fullest possible extent rather than letting the state basically manage them while living off the dole? Has anyone brought up the offshore bank accounts and Lizzy’s lobbying over secrecy laws lol

You can put your far left pipe dreams in the bin. The monarchy of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland is going to be around for a while. Most of the Commonwealth will still recognize the monarch as head of state for some time as well.
