By the way, I think it's going to happen, no matter what the English in Westminster might do.

Hey I was told that by some Québécois and Canadian friends of mine. Turns out they’re wrong.

Either way it turns out I was right that Manitoba is next to Ontario

Other then that what do you all think?

I think it's definitely possible within the next few years, but it'd be in pretty bad taste to see the move too soon after the Queen's passing.

Indyref was interesting to watch, but it did send the message that Scotland wanted to stay in the Union. The safe period, politically, to try something like that again would probably be ~10 years so perhaps we'll see Indyref2 in 2024?

Also, I'm predicting that a lot of Republican movements throughout the Anglosphere will gain traction much quicker following HM's passing. Places like New Zealand and Australia in particular.

Well the Indyref isn’t republican in nature, using the 2014 plan as evidence an independent Scotland would still have a monarch as head of state

Well, according to the BBC, Xi Jinping has payed tribute to the queen.

The BBC wrote: Chinese President Xi Jinping has offered his sympathies following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

"Xi Jinping, representing the Chinese government and the Chinese people, as well as in his own name, expresses deep condolences," a statement says.

"Her passing is a great loss to the British people."

The statement stresses that Jinping "attaches great importance to the development of China-UK relations".

It adds he is "willing to work" with King Charles III to "promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations for the benefit of the two countries and their peoples".

Yes it does. The PotC can't call snap elections, so the Parliament is much more free to change the head of government.
The President of the Republic is the Head of State. And E.II has seen all of them so far: Einaudi, the first President, was in charge when King George died; Then there were Gronchi, Segni, Saragat, Leone, Pertini, Cossiga, Scalfaro, Ciampi, Napolitano and Mattarella.

A modest solution to the problems of two great nations.

Charles III abdicates. In favor of the defeated former US president. Following which Parliament strips the Yankee monarch of any and all duties other than ceremonials. The defeated former president gets to live out his days surrounded by tawdry luxury and under perpetual legal immunity as a head of state. The US is relieved of a present danger to democracy and the rule of law. And the United Kingdom is so disgusted that the monarchy, if not abolished, is legislated into insignificance.

Worth a try.

A treaty with First Nations people is a good thing to wish for, but he could have worded the prior points of the message perhaps a little more gracefully.

I have nothing really nice to say about the queen, but in hindsight nothing bad either, until recently diving into some really bad shit she was apart of. But for the sanctity of this thread I will leave it at didn't think she would actually die.

She was a fixture of the world for so long, she saw the entirety of the cold war, most of the cold war order, she saw nations rise, nations fade, and though the sun has still not truly set on the British Empire, in a way with her passing, the light might, for better or worse, be touching the horizon.

And what that means for history, I do not know.

Still over all I think she's been one of history's better monarchs and I think her life deserves to be celebrated.

I guess the Queen has passed, condolences to her friends and family. It feels so weird, that the face of the United Kingdom you've seen and known your whole life has suddenly changed....

May God save the King now, and may he serve his country and realms in the same manner his mother did

I find it rather wierd that Charles chose the title of Charles III, considering that Charles I and Charles II were both less than favorable royals. I suppose it’s up to him now to clear their names.
