Uh, our pledge ends in "liberty and justice for all." "All" includes other forms of life in the environment. They need justice too, and the way of achieving that is going somewhat green.

Disagree, human life is the only life that is inherently valuable. The problem with climate change is entirely humanitarian.

Climate change is not going to end the world! It's essentially a widely believed conspiracy theory with 0 evidence. I support it mainly for moral reasons, and partially because animal life, and plant life benefit humans.

I know, I do have fairly environmentalist values. My point is that it's not for climate change that I have these views, the world is not about to end, and anyone who supports the new green deal must have met Henny Penny.

I believe it's not real, I just feel like pollution, and harm to ecology is real to a degree. Therefore I do believe in a slow switch to alternative energy.

Of course it won’t kill all humans. Nothing that exists right now can.* Apocalyptic alarmism about anything is unhelpful. But it could cause hundreds of millions of deaths (through extreme temperatures, natural disasters, droughts, poor air quality etc.) which would be “pretty bad” by most standards.

I beg to differ on the extreme temperature part. But the rest of it is accurate. However humans will find ways to survive, we're an intelligent species. the rest may have a much harder time.

Why? Increases in temperature won’t cause an increase in heat-related exposure deaths?

The reality is that the majority of people who will be affected by climate change do not live in 1st World countries. Expecting everyone to buy a way out of it when living standards are already bad is absurd and callous. “Buy a better AC unit and upgrade your power grid” is not an answer for the 5 billion people who don’t have air conditioning in the first place, much less the 1 billion living in slums.

I'm strangely unconvinced that a major increase in temperature will magically happen. Have you ever read the story of Henny Penny? I think you got hit by the same oak nut, or whatever it was that he got hit with.

That's because it's not going to happen. Climate change doesn't mean the year-round daily mean in Milwaukee will be 115 F, it means the once-in-a-century heatwave will become the once-in-a-decade heatwave. And with that, a whole slew of issues (increased frequency of intense storms, diminishing crop yields, etc.)

Based on red meat and the America way

Yerachmeal wrote:Immigrate to a better country that provides welfare or homeless shelters if that's a problem.

The vast majority literally can’t. It’s borderline impossible to immigrate to the US without money or family, and this country barely has a social safety net. Do you want 7 billion people to move to Europe? Not to mention that conservatives are the ones rallying to keep non-white immigrants out.

Why don’t you let them in legally? They’re honest people trying to make a better life, not rapists and thugs. Providing opportunity to people who have none at home is what America was founded on.
