Los Angeles Brilliantly Attempts To Boycott Arizona

Postby Christmahanikwanzikah » Fri May 21, 2010 11:57 pm

And then, suddenly, someone reminds them where they get their electricity.

http://money.cnn.com/2010/05/20/news/ec ... tt/?hpt=T3

CNN wrote:Arizona responded to the Los Angeles city council boycott with a suggestion of its own: cutting power to the nation's second-largest city.

The Arizona Corporation Commission, the overseer for the state's electric and water utilities, has offered to pull the plug on Los Angeles, noting that Arizona's power plants supply electricity to 25% of the city.

"If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives power from Arizona-based generation," wrote Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, in a May 18 letter.

Don't even bother telling us that the Hoover Dam still actually has electric generators.

I think this is awesome. Arizona should bring LA to its knees.

5% less of an impact, plus less direct impact and infrastructure problems.

Most we'd get is a price jump. LA is looking at blackouts and brownouts.

We would just invade then, so no. That isn't a good comparison.

I hope this escalating stupidity spurs the federal government to reform immigration.

It's been a long, long time since one state invaded another.

Next, we'll get into a fight over Nevada over... something, and then promptly get bitchslapped again.

It's fun to live in a city that gets its water and power from other states!

But something was accomplished out of it, so I don't think LA failed at all.

The statement was made: we're not cool with this immigration bill you passed. It's one thing for any random joe to voice that opinion, and it's different when a major city or, say, an Arizona-based professional basketball team does it.

Doubt LA would really go through with a boycott. Don't need to, just threaten it and voice its displeasure. On the grounds that the bill is wrong.

What kind of grounds does AZ have? "We have your electricity, so tough."

Meh. So they pointed out that a boycott would be impractical. Why are we applauding them now?

AZ has cactus jelly too.
It's a well known fact that prickly pear jelly is a cornerstone of the Californian hippie/health-nut diet. So clearly their economy will soon collapse due to the lack of cactus-based products.

So then LA's boycott will actually become effective as it mobilizes lots of people against Arizona for this dickish move, and thus they'll both end up hurting pretty good by the end of the day.

Wonderful situation.

Nobody would want to invade Arizona. Quite honestly it puzzles me why so many Mexicans choose to cross the border there.

Let me sum up conditions in that state for you.

1. Average daily temperature is about 500 degrees. Celsius.
2. Literally everything is trying to kill you. Animals that don't actually attack you are poisonous, all of the plants are covered in spines, spikes, poison, or some combination thereof. Anything that isn't actually trying to kill you at the moment is probably planning something.
3. There is no water. Anywhere. The Arizonan concept of 'river' is a dry riverbed that only ever has water in it during the 3 days per year that it rains.
4. When it does rain, it rains hard. Flash floods hard. Also, the water is full of animal mummies and poop since nothing decomposes out there.
5. Outside of the major cities, everybody is a crazy republican gun-nut.
6. The only animals not trying to kill you are the cows. Arizona is a fence-out state, which means that cows are everywhere. That means there's cow crap everywhere.
7. The local architecture is a horrific fusion of Mexican and classic American suburb designs. There's a skyscraper in downtown Tucson they tried to apply that too. It's a terrible building and a sin against God.
8. There is nothing to do. Tucson consists of either retirement communities or gang ghettos. Sometimes they're the same thing. Nobody seems keen to build any form of entertainment there besides the occasional strip club.
9. Old people. They are everywhere. They will drive 35 miles per hour in the 75 zone of the freeway. You either develop good reflexes or you put a cowcatcher on the front of your car.
10. While almost everybody speaks English, nobody speaks it particularly well. Especially the white people.

Well just pillage them and redistribute the population to more manageable areas then.
