I would implore for India to temporarily annex the country, India has greater manpower and can probably get Sri Lanka under control better than the native authorities. There must be something India could be given, like free mining rights in Sri Lanka for 10 years or something else in exchange for coming to the rescue in preventing a ruinous civil war.

No government which has been in charge for too long, wouldn't go to any lengths to hold onto power if desperate enough. If this were in the PRC, Xi Jinping and other decision makers there would be in a full blown panic and would pull out every tool in their arsenal to wrest back control of the situation in defusing it, if not purely by sheer force.

I'm sure that would fly real well with the U.N. seeing as how India is desperately trying to gain a permanent SC seat.....

Why make it temporary? Why not a full-on South Asian Union or Federation that would be stronger than the sum of its parts?

It's happened. Sri Lanka's parliament has accepted Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation, and Ranil Wickremesinghe will be acting president.

Well, here's hoping for a better government in the future. I'll admit I haven't been as up to speed on this as I've been elsewhere, but I've seen the pictures.
