Open book tests often result in high school students NOT doing well since they spend more time looking than writing, in my experience.

The latter is very true. I hated group projects for that reason. It is also why everyone wanted me in their group. They knew I'd make sure the work was done, even if I had to do it myself. To this day (professionally) I have trouble delegating to my crew. I am constantly on my guard to NOT try and do it all myself.

Thankfully, I have a very good crew.

I am very impressed with your work ethic and professionalism. This is exactly what the world needs more of.

Gets straight As and A+s… Check.

Always gets the job done… Check.

Can’t delegate? It’s fine I mean if you get it done, why’s it matter. This is all great stuff.

It was a D at my high school.

IIRC, it was:
93–100 A
86–92 B
78–85 C
70–77 D
0–69 F

I may be slightly off on the C/D and D/F boundaries. I graduated more than 30 years ago. But a 75 was definitely a D. And Meatloaf says that two out of three ain't bad, but 67% was a failing grade.

Really? At my school 75 was a C.

That’s odd. Going through High School and University in Canada, a 75 has always been considered “decent”. It’s acceptable, not bad, not great. It’s good. An 80 or above is a high grade, below 70 means you had a bad year. Don’t understand why anyone would feel like a 75 is a failure unless they were subjected to high expectations from peers and parents.

Yes, really. I believe 10-point bands are standard in the U.S., and that's what the surrounding county school district used, but my high school, and the city school district as a whole, used 7–8-point bands. The top of the D range was 76 or 77; I don't remember for certain. But 75 was definitely in the D range.

But yeah, to get back to how meaningful grades actually are... I slid through high school with Cs and Ds, mainly because I just didn't do homework, so my class grades tended to be determined by how the teacher's grading system worked out when you filled in 0s on all the homework and As on all the tests. I wouldn't have graduated at all except I got several key teachers to come around to my point of view that I obviously didn't actually need to do the homework when I was effortlessly acing all the tests without it. I got into college mainly on the strength of doing the same thing to the SAT that I did to every other test in high school.

I wish my grades were all a 75 back in school, that would be pretty good.

To look at school in general : we need to get rid if art in in school. This is because art is subjective and other subjects are objective.

A 75 percent on a score card does not mean that you got 75% of the questions right because of the curve.

Anything above 70 IMO is a good grade. Anything below... isn't. So yes, 75 is a good grade.

I grew up in a Commonwealth country where we did tests the British way. They were incredibly hard compared to testing in the US. 70% in maths, language, or any type of sciences was considered average. If you scored 75% you were doing well for yourself. Scoring 85-90% made you exceptionally gifted in the topic matter. Marks over 95% were unheard of.

I'd approve of art getting axed, but there is the argument that schools want to expose their students to a little bit of everything or to otherwise cultivate their talents and encourage creativity.

Some people are good enough at art to where they should continue that skill on the side. But because it's hard or impossible to make art a profitable career that's practical, it probably does need to become an extracurricular or after school pursuit if it hasn't already been demoted in importance nearly everywhere.

The same old problem remains, most of the famous artists usually don't become famous or valuable until long after they're dead. Their pay is too tied to scarcity in general if it's not commission work.
