Maybe younger people but not older. Actually not even all young people speak English. Knowing more then one language gives you more opportunities, better knowledge and doesn't make you look narcissistic for thinking your native language is superior

Dude nearly everyone in the US speaks English. WRA is in the US where most people speak English because it’s easy and nobody needs to speak another language.

The US isn’t like Europe when it makes speaking another language important.

First of I am not your dude and second of US of A is not the whole world. I get that you probably won't need to travel anywhere else unless your government draftyou into another war that they don't need to be part of, but having a second language is only an advantage, it's never disadvantage. Of course, you don't need a second language if you don't want it but it's not something to be proud of really.

Never said it was. In the context I mentioned that another language isn’t all that important because in the US everyone speaks English. WRA is from one of the whitest and English parts of the US.

For me it would make some sense to know Spanish given my proximity to Mexico but other than that most languages are only if ya want to learn them.

It helps if you travel a lot or live in a big city, and the world is becoming more globalised.

My native languages are English and Irish but I mainly speak English, I am learning 2 languages in school, which are Irish and Spanish

It helps if you travel a lot or live in a big city, and the world is becoming more globalised.

Even in most American big cities people speak English. So knowing another language really isn’t that important unless you live close to Mexico or Quebec

I feel like that’s actually my biggest roadblock to becoming more proficient in them lol. The orthography is so utterly mind boggling as a native English speaker still.

I can only speak English and honestly I feel ashamed of that. Despite living in Canada I don't even know basic French because I live in a part of Canada where the francophone population is insignificant to the point of basically not existing, and I grew up in a time when it wasn't required at all in the schools around here. And French just never really appealed to me as a language to learn.

I took two years of Spanish in high school and was doing pretty good with it but budget cuts meant the school had to get rid of the Spanish teacher and not get a new one. I've forgotten basically everything I've learned there. My university had no language offerings that appealed to me (although I really should have continued Spanish because it was offered and I remembered more of it at the time) so that was basically my last chance to properly learn a new language completely written off for me. I tried Russian on Duolingo a while back and it was pretty difficult so I lost motivation. Within the past couple years I've tried to learn Turkish on Duolingo and I've found it to be a surprisingly easy language for me once you get over how different it is from Indo-European languages, but the hard part is staying motivated since I have zero chance to use that language since no Turkish people live in my area and I'm unlikely to be visiting Turkey any time soon. Unfortunately, the commonly spoken non-English languages in my city which I'd actually have a chance to use are of very little interest to me whether due to general lack of interest in the associated culture or due to difficulty of the language.

I speak the Punjabi Language (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ) as I am a native speaker of it. I learnt Hindi and English in school. I have significant knowledge of French and Italian. Oh also Esperanto, that counts right?
