I use Opera because I enjoy being contrarian. Although I do like the built-in adblock.

Vivaldi: Chrome-based, customizable and privacy-forward. DDG for search too. For fancy websites and/or my credit card company that doesn't play well with Vivaldi I switch to Edge but I resent it every time.

It depends on how you measure, but full statistics are available here; and even in China Chrome predominates.

Opera is a compromise between using Chrome and not using Chrome by using a non-chrome Chromium browser.
Being contrarian is using IceCat or IceWeasel lmao.

Firefox gang, but the war is basically over. Chrome won, with Microsoft and Mozilla signing a truce agreement and having their browsers exist in a sort of autonomous zone. Mobile browser wars are going on in a different universe, but with much the same results I'd say.

Chrome. Though sadly it is going the way Microsoft went, endless pointless fucking updates to experiment with stupid new features. I basically want my browser to not attract my attention at all.

Edge.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

Not really, Microsoft bowed. Edge is built on chromium (the open source chrome engine). Only Firefox and Safari (+niche browsers like lynx) remain independent.

Opera GX
Why? Because of the adblocker, and when I visit clingy websites that go "Turn off your adblocker", Opera GX is not on the list, + I am a hoarder who keeps like 50 tabs open but only use 3 of them. And the game you play when you have no WI-FI is much better than chrome's.
I swear this is not a sponsor.

The browser wars were mainly an issue for web developers, the worst was when IE6 was mostly made obsolete but because it was built into company databases, a lot of companies still used it.. troubleshooting a website issue and then going.. 'wait, are you using IE6..?' happened a lot.

It was a tablet issue before as well, creating an application for iPad, Samsung.. and the freaking plethora of tablet screen sizes.. but now with dynamic sites, it's not really a problem.

Frankly there is zero difference between most browsers that affect the average user. Same with laptops and phones, as long as the CPU and memory is decent, 95% of people won't genuinely notice much difference.

If Microsoft put as much effort into designing a decent app, as they put into coercing people to use them, they might occasionally come up with something that was good.

I found either that our old XP would crash a lot with Chrome, or it was just Chrome itself... I can't remember which. Either way, I used to call it Google Crash. IE worked just fine and, of course, looked much cleaner and prettier, because it wasn't fucking IE6.

Of course, and hence appending it to this part of your post, that computer was 7-ish years old at the time and it hadn't been top of the range when it was bought. Hell, I'd go as far to say that it was a budget model, possibly from the year before, maybe even sold cheap to clear stock ahead of Vista's launch about six months later.

I've been using Brave for the past few years. They've gotten into a habit of adding niche features, but it's not annoying enough for me to find another browser.

In the grand scheme of things, many aren't using Firefox, unfortunately. Google clearly won the browser war, at least for this generation.

I think my favorite of all-time is a tie between Seamonkey, and its defunct predecessors Netscape Communicator 4.x and Mozilla Suite. It's unfortunate that many Linux distros and websites don't play nice with it however.

As far as everyday use goes, these days on desktop computers it's usually a Firefox derivative such as Waterfox or IceCat, and I do keep a separate Linux profile with updated stock Firefox on it. I'd probably be all-in on IceCat if it were officially updated though.

On my phone I use a different browser sourced from the F-Droid Repository.
