I haven't had a normal tongue piercing, just the web, which is extremely thin and has almost no nerves.

My eyebrow piercing is the only one I have left these days, but I've had a few.
My ears had been done a bunch of times. First time with a gun (do not do this) and the rest at home with a needle (probably also do not do this, unless you know what you're doing).
Two tongue piercings.
Two labret piercings.
One septum piercing, which did not go well and didn't last long.

Honestly, not really. The piercing itself is just a short sharp jab. It goes right smack in the centre, and there isn't much going on there.

The couple of days afterwards kinda suck, because of swelling and a general feeling of having a very sore muscle in your mouth, and you have to be careful eating, because they put a large bar in at first to account for the swelling, which is real fun when you accidentally get it between your teeth, but in terms of like, paaaaiiiiin, it's not as bad as you'd think.

Thank you.

The poll is interesting. More people have had their ears pierced with a needle than a gun. I always thought the gun was the more common way of doing it.

Gun used to be the standard, but thankfully people are more informed these days.

Are needles easier to sterilise or something?

It's more that piercing guns are potentially damaging, though hygiene's an issue too.
With a gun, you're basically brute forcing a pretty blunt object through tissue, whereas needles are thin and sharp as shit.

I remember it hurting and being mad at everyone who told me it wouldn't hurt. One of the hurdles to me getting a matching piercing because the silliness behind the logic of the left ear thing hit me pretty quickly. I think the first time I explained it out loud and it sounded stupid coming out of my mouth.

My piercer offered both methods, with the gun being about half the cost of doing it with a needle. I chose the needle, because I'd read about how the guns work, and felt uncomfortable with it.

If it helps, I had never heard of the left ear silliness, got the "wrong" ear done and was picked on pretty consistently for it, so at least you dodged that bullet. :lol2:

Good call. It's cheap for a reason.
Plus needles hurt significantly less.

So, NSG, I ask you: where have you been pierced?
I got pierced just underneath the eye
What was your motivation?
I wanted a fish
What pearls of wisdom would you share with others?

Don't fish in front of a tree, and if your hook gets stuck, don't try to pull it down.

Pierced an ear on my 16th birthday, although I haven't worn an earring in decades.

I advise you to make sure that you don't have a problem with keloids before getting pierced. With obvious exceptions for piercings on the tongue and some genital piercings.

Other than that, go nuts.

Yes, but it's also that every needle is only used once. They're sterilized, wrapped up, and only opened seconds before the piercing happens.

I went to school with a girl who developed keloids after piercing her ears. She was a nice enough girl, but bullied mercilessly for it by some of the other students.

Earrings were for women and hippies when I grew up. :D

Never really saw the appeal anyway, not to mention the inherent unhygienic component and security risk at work.

There is no inherent unhygienic component, unless you're an inherently unhygienic person.

Just the same that are associated with wearing jewellery or a watch in general. There's a reason all of those are forbidden in food service after all.

In my arm a couple of times, in my shoulder once, in my legs multiple times.

What was your motivation?

Staying alive.

What pearls of wisdom would you share with others?

Target shields are a stupid idea. Go for the scutum.
