Therefore, the 10th Amendment, that red-headed stepchild of the Bill of Rights, reserves that power to the several states and this ruling restores that.

Now, if you want abortion legal in your state, start electing legislators who will make it so. We did it here in New York.

Conservatives thinking that the 1950s represent the golden age of traditional virtues rather than it being a last, frantic reaction against the extinguishing of its last, faintest embers, is a significant reason why they have lost every meaningful fight. Frankly I'm surprised this got repealed and am not confident in its longevity.

Conservatives haven't lost.

They're arguably the most powerful they've ever been.

This come-back is surprising to be sure.

But no they have lost on basically every issue ever put forward to debate. That's why things have changed so radically in the last 60+ years from that mythical golden age. Once the last vision of a traditional way of life was finally buried there was really nothing left to stop the tide of progress.

Conservatives can't find any actual ground to plant roots in because they idealise, in the 50s, the death of everything they think they're standing for. So they've just been dragged along and each new young generation of conservatives just finds itself standing for whatever they think seems traditional, and which usually is just whatever the previous generation of progressives succeeded in changing. Abortion has been one of the hotter topics so it's refused to be dragged along to the same degree, but there's a startling number of religious people even on NSG who, affirming their orientation to what should be timeless and eternal principles, still come to the conclusion of the correctness of abortion. So I'm not surprised this is the issue that was chosen to spearhead this new conservative wave, I'm just surprised the attempt succeeded at all. It marks a serious reversal rather than a continuation.

Well, this is the US Congress' fault for failing to pass any federal laws codifying this previous precedent. SCOTUS can't strike down federal laws unless there is text in the US Constitution which contradicts it. The courts are otherwise supposed to only interpret law.

This could have been fixed if congress regulated abortion. Then it wouldn’t have been a 10th issue.

However your idea isn’t going to work as Mitch has already said if the GOP takes the senate they will make abortion federally illegal.

So if the Dems lose in 2022, and it’s looking likely they will, then abortion has 2 years left in the US.

And you'll definitely be seeing that too, but if one party can go around, commit a few criminal acts to further their cause, why shouldn't the other? Of course, it's always scattered, isolated people with nothing but their convictions to keep them company who do that, but circumstances like that aren't isolated to one side of the political spectrum.

I doubt such an effort would possibly yield fruit. Republicans are too fond of talking about "Judeo-Christian values" to actually entertain eliminating half of this concept. Plus both parties are very pro-Israel.

They see abortions as morally wrong, and anything and anyone who stands in their way as aberrant and morally corrupt. Let's not forget that anti-semitic ideas and opinions are floated regularly in conservative thought bubbles. Don't forget the 'Unite the Right' rally in 2017.

I cannot proceed from the premise that "conservatives" and the primary actors in UtR have any ideological overlap. Most of the people you call conservative seem to me to be more pro-Israel than pro-America. Anti-semitism has increasingly become a controversy of the left, due to the general support from many people on that side for Palestine and the Arab cause against that of Israel and Zionism. Conservative Republicans have been the voice of Israel in Congress for quite some time now, and this is not a view welcomed by those who align with UtR.
