you could make an argument for this, yes, but not the usual one, and that one requires a great deal of factionalism

The brainlet take is "the GOP is the party of Lincoln," the midwit take is "the parties switched," and the enlightened take is that the Republican party has actually remained remarkably consistent through the centuries. It's the Democrats and the voting bases that have changed.
The GOP has always been the party of capitalism. Just before and during the Civil War, the Republicans wanted to destroy the institution of slavery not because they were against racism, but because getting rid of slavery would pave the way for proper industrialization (and of course there were moral qualms that had nothing to do with race). Through the ages, the Republicans have maintained their commitment to capitalism, while the Democrats slowly shifted from being the party of the South and slavery to being the party of state intervention in capitalism.

Definitions for the terms in the parentheses:
Orthodox Marxism: Basically just Marxism, calls for a revolution that leads to the dictatorship of the proletariat (which is probably democratic, it could just mean the rule of the proletariat), and then to the end goal of Marxism (a stateless, moneyless society with direct democracy and its policy on wages)
Reformist Marxism: Orthodox Marxism but the end goal is achieved via reform
Centrist Marxism: Marxism but they are neutral on the revolution/reform axis
Eurocommunism: A variant of Reformist Marxism that calls for a united Europe
Austromarxism: Centrist Marxism combined with left-wing nationalism and social democracy

I feel like a lot of these ideologies really sort of fail to consider how the exportation of labor factors into the current Capitalist world hegemony… especially Eurocommunism. Orthodox Marxism is the only thing on this list that even remotely acknowledges the ways in which any kind of market introduces all sorts of perverse incentives.

Social democracy is just liberal capitalism with nice stuff thrown on top of it. I think the original quote you’re referring to was sort of a jab about how liberal democracy degenerates into fascism, not an actual condemnation of it as fascist in and of itself.
