This is a new thread all about fighter jets - from the humble beginnings in WW2, to the MiGs and Sabres of Korea, to the Phantom of Vietnam, and beyond. We can talk about specifications, performance, systems, avionics, and all other stuff about fighter jets, of course keeping in line with Forum Rules.

This includes the first fighter jets, first generation planes of the early 1950s, second generation, third generation, fourth generation, fifth generation, and beyond. Jets of all nations are discussed here, so American, Soviet/Russian, British, etc are all welcome. Combat experience for planes is also a discussion topic.

It is a 5th Gen. F-22, F-35, J-10 (China) and Su-57 are all 5th Gen.

Na, that's just because it costs a lot of money and the Russian MIC isn't really adept at cranking out lots of high tech stuff.

It is still probably a solid plane, it has thrust vectoring after all, but it'd probably struggle a fair bit against an F-22.

There was a reason why the F-117 wasn't bombed or destroyed too. The tech was supposedly outdated already.

The F-22 is still arguably the greatest combat plane ever made, and will probably only be eclipsed in that regard by NGAD when it gets adopted later this decade.

Shame they cut production at 187. Would have liked to see more, but alas, I'll be redeemed with NGAD which is already flying.

There's only 3-4 Su-57's in active service with the Russian air force, they sure as hell aren't doing anything other than looking pretty on video right now. The other 15 or so are prototype units that Sukhoi is still doing whatever with.

What about those other migs they have. Cant they overpowet the u.s air force?
