Us vs Them: A moral dillemma

I would say no. While I as the leader of Elkville will be loyal to my nation, my first responsibility is to the human race. I cannot extinguish the lives of so many for the lives of so few. There is a reason why nuclear weapons are called nuclear DETERRENTS. It is because they aren't created to be used. They are created for the threat of mutual destruction, not worldwide genocide. The simple truth is, no matter what the cause, no matter what goal, no end justifies this means.

Destroy our WMDs and surrender. I'll presumably be executed as a war criminal or something, and my nation will presumably be subjected to military occupation, but my people will be alive to resist and have a world to live in when they win their freedom.

I second this opinion.
While always a hard pill to swallow, sometimes surrendering is the better option. A tactical retreat may not be glorious but at least my people have a chance.

Phone the leaders on a hotline and tell them I intend to nuke all of them if they do not back off and negotiate. Ironically enough, brinkmanship may be the only way to save the citizens of Elkville and the global coalition from destruction, presuming the coalition leaders are rational enough to view nuclear annihilation as an unfavorable prospect.

The question is if the war they intend on waging is a war of extermination against Elkville? If the World's goal is the complete extermination of not only Elkville but the Elkville people then that means at this point either Elkville has done something horribly horribly wrong to piss the entire world off, or everyone else on the planet has become genocidal maniacs.

However if it's simply the idea that the Elkville government needs to be destroyed that changes the situation greatly.

Yes, at that point, and given the facts, **** should have finished. Even the world knowing, let alone threatening them with such, made it a necessity. From the islanders and ****'s POV. The only way such a question becomes truly a paradoxical one, is if both sides actually HAD to wipe the other out to survive. And while such an argument could be made... I see it more along the lines of "sucks to hold just a twisted view of a people" but they did and would have and were going to wipe them out.

1. if the threat is from an intelligible source, then just make them stop by telling them that what they are doing is unhelpful

My answer

Find another way. My way. In the shortest amount of time possible, launch nukes at every single significant military establishment and more. Destroy several economic powerpoints and bring the world to its knees with minimum casualties, and then when the come up gasping for breath, calmly explain the situatin to them. Leave my little Elkville alone, or die. If they leave it alone, we can peacefully coexist with a little cold shoulder. If not, than keep going for the base of the tower until it is neccessary to bring it down alltogether.
