Not really: when I first joined ages ago with my very first nation in 2009, I was more into "making my own country" than any political thing. It may not have been the SimsCity experience I wanted, but there really wasn't a lot of options, which led me here.

Of course, since I've pissed away well over half of my life on this site, I've become more and more interested in politics, for better or for ill.

So, no, you are not weird for joining NationStates even though you don't have interest in politics (yet, at least). Maybe you'll gain an interest in politics like I did. Maybe you just want to roleplay and worldbuild with others. Or maybe it's something else entirely.

There is no such thing as "apolitical". Everyone is political. Everything is political. Politics encompass and affect every aspect of human society and civilization. It frankly isn't possible to be both alive and "apolitical".

You're not weird but you're probably wasting your time.

The worldbuilding aspect of the site is mostly dead - Even Pinterest is a better source for ideas and any number of sites are better for feedback these days. There used to be some fairly good threads about various things but most of the knowledgeable and/or interesting posters are long gone or only look at them sporadically due to inertia.

As a "nation simulator" NS is terrible, you can do better with a piece of scratch paper.

NSG is NSG, the quality of discourse is pretty bad with a few exceptions.

While I can see a point to what you mean, I genuinely have no strong opinions about most things, and even if I have a mild opinion of some kind, I keep it to myself, I prefer to worry about other things, no offence intended of course :)

This isnt just a political site you know.

Even though the only other thing you really can do is rp with other users, or talk about poli- I mean... look at the Rmb and have non political conversations there.

That's probably a terrible advice coming from someone who doesn't have any factbooks and doesn't answer his/her issues on a regular basis (and I am talking about your main and not your puppets if you have so that is).

Although, yes, I agree that the world-building aspect of NS has been dwindling and I rarely see players and new faces nowadays who have that same type of aptitude as me and others like me.

You're quite missing the point of NS as a "nation simulator" for what it is. Think of NS like minecraft (creative-mode) but you build your nation with blocks-of-text instead of actual 'blocks', with a twist of idle gameplay through issue answering.

This is the internet, it is already expected that discourse can be pretty chaotic but I'll say NS is the best we got out of the bunch.

Yeah, issues started boring me around 2010 or so.

Also, if you're interesting in world-building for literature you're dooming yourself if you put it all in "factbooks" first.

So...may I know your true convictions then? :P

Seems to me that your only conviction present as of the moment is: "I never had fun playing this shit game and I will never know how."

Yes, you're correct. I've never had fun playing a game that for world-building purposes is far shittier than Microsoft Word - to the point calling it a "game" at all has always seemed a bit of a stretch.

I have had fun, or at least enjoyed, interacting with a group of talented posters that's largely disappeared or migrated elsewhere.

If you're actually interested in publishing anything it's literary suicide to post it on NS first.

Being apolitical is basically a fancier way of saying "I ignore reality and am complicit in everything wrong with our world". But some people just want to watch the world burn. And it's fun to just watch.

Nah, but you really shouldn't care about what other people may or may not think about you.

Well it can be fun in some ways, I just have my own things to worry about, you know? I don't mean to sound ignorant, at all, as I never ever mean to, but it's just that I have lots of my plate and if I added politics my plate would be too full, in a sense, if that makes sense. I can't quite explain it right. But you do have a point!

That's ehm, quite cynical to say the least, and I've posted my works elsewhere, and have all kinds of lore information, maps, and the like stored on my computer, I just like NationStates as it is yet another tool to assist me for world building ideas, things to branch off of, and I just enjoy the website and it's community in general. :)

I also don't really understand the literary suicide part because well, even if published here, it doesn't mean your works can't be refined from what is originally posted and then published elsewhere, besides, it's nice to get feedback, even if it's tidbits, from the community here, mostly everyone has been nice to me since I've joined a little while ago!
