Moment of minor pedantry, but we very much have a Republican party active in the UK. Sinn Féin are Republican in both the broader sense and the narrower Irish sense.

Sinn Féin sweeping Liverpool in the next general election.

The funny thought popped into my head when the day comes that Ireland is finally reunited, they'll be a little spot on the map in the middle of Scotland as Coatbridge is declared the 33rd county.

Liverpool had an Irish nationalist MP for 44 years from 1885 to 1929. T.P. O'Connor - previously the Home Rule League MP for Galway Borough - was so popular with his Merseyside constituents that he continued to represent the (confusingly named) seat of Liverpool Scotland as an Irish nationalist even after the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 and formation of the Irish Free State in 1922.

Turning Point UK organise protest against non-existent drag event

Protesters stood outside an empty pub on Friday morning to rally against a non-existent drag event.

Turning Point UK had organised a demonstration at The Great Exhibition pub in East Dulwich for 11:00 GMT.

A counter protest was organised by Stand up to Racism South London, with local people and pro LGBT+ activists meeting at 10:00 GMT.

The Turning Point UK protest was organised in response to an out of date event listing on the pub's website.

A spokesperson for CLIP, which hosted a Drag Storytime event at the venue in July 2022, told BBC London that the venue's website was still showing the event as running monthly because the listings had not been updated.

Around 200 people were seen outside the pub and Met Police officers were in attendance.

That's being too kind. Spanners are useful, although "fucking spanners" are a very niche tool.
These people are bandwagoning on a silly and absurd US distraction piece. It's times like this I think we should deport such proponents to southern US states and see how the survive the lack of tea, public transport and access to healthcare.

In any case I hate to see that Drag has become the latest punchbag for the unlikely pairing of religious zealots and child safety enthusiasts.

However, it is pathetic the BBC have decided to all but restricted freedom of speech. Then again, they have been siding with the Tory Government more and more lately.
