Honestly, the only good bit was the Youtube auto generated subtitles's rabid republicanism:

YT's bad subtitles are honestly a legend by now, I think.

The Lincoln War Department used to prosecute war profiteers. Now they make public policy through their elected lackeys in Congress and the White House.

I thought the coronation was neat. I liked the parade at the end. I didn't plan on watching it but when I visited my mum, she had it on the TV so we sat and watched it as a family, which was nice.

I know there are a lot of questions and concerns over the arrest of anti-monarchy protestors yesterday, but honestly my first thought was that it felt like they were (metaphorically) just pissing on the parade and so it served them right.

Frankly I'm just pleased we have a head of state that's genuinely bothered about the environment.

Reporters were arrested for interviewing anti-monarchy protesters. Volunteers who go out at night to help drunk people get home safely were arrested for giving people rape alarms. Basic democratic rights are vanishing from Britain and the opposition doesn't intend to bring them back.

But at least the man got to throw a big party for his nice new hat.

With funding for the supporting events being held by councils around that being taken from local charities like food banks.

This is certainly an election, yes.

I find it somewhat disjointing that nine of the sites chosen for Light Up The Nation during the coronation concert were actual British landmarks and the tenth site was a random street party in Leicester where I didn't notice the lighting at all.

The second paragraph is obviously not. This is the UK Politics Thread. The nature of this thread means that it is okay to bring up matters other than the 2023 local elections in it, so long as they pertain to British politics.

Yes, because talking about a specific event that happened on a scheduled date and has been discussed for the past 3 pages is "abrupt".

…you inject a random post about a random specific electoral outcome that basically no one here is going to care about into the middle of a discussion of the coronation and then complain about abrupt changes in topic.

Just checking in to see how we all enjoyed the coronation, personal highlights for me was the extra bank holiday today, Harry looking miserable at the ceremony and those pesky republicans getting locked up.

I was in work so no holiday for me. Just a normal day stacking shelves and putting out prices.

Are you planning on sticking around at all, i missed having you in the thread honestly. Added to the different views in discussions.

So, how many seats flipped from Tory to Libdem? And did I hear correctly that some seats flipped from blue to green? How does that happen?!

People like the colour green. Also probably tons of local factors and environmental issues and other things like such as that.

The Liberal Democrats gained 405 councillors and control of 12 councils in the local elections, however not all of those came from the Conservatives (though a majority did i would wager). The Greens won control of one council and gained 241 councillors. The council they took control of was Mid Suffolk, where the Greens won 12 seats (almost all of them from the Conservatives), giving them a total of 24 in that council, winning complete control of it
