Have a strange traditional disease?

And some 2021 material for conspiracy theorists

After the United States reported its first human case of monkeypox this year, U.S. media Newsweek reported on the 19th that the U.S. health department has ordered millions of doses of monkeypox vaccine worth $119 million.

On the 18th, Danish vaccine company Bavarian Nordic issued a statement saying that the company had signed contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars with the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

This time the show should come as planned.

Unlikely given that most people are vaccinated against it because of the smallpox vaccine. Furthermore it’s very hard to catch and has a under 1% chance of death

It’s not going to be as bad as COVID as you’d have to quite literally kiss someone in order to get it. So wear a mask and you’ll literally be fine.

No more like someone killed an infected monkey and ate it

The monkeypox strains circulating in the Congo Basin have a fatality rate of 10% in humans, compared with less than 1% for West African strains.
刚果盆地地区流行的猴痘毒株感染人类的致死率可以达到10%,而西非毒株感染的死亡率则不到1%。

Either that or they shagged them, although I'm sure on being asked the question they went with your reason..

Or he was eating a banana and the monkey took a bite from it.

Most people are not vaccinated against smallpox because smallpox is extinct and the vaccine has some risk of side effects.

They could use the existing smallpox vaccine to vaccinate people, though.

By that point I'm pretty sure monkeypox wouldn't be your only problem.

We need to completely avoid exposure to moonlight and wear jockstraps everywhere we go and only travel internationally via sailboat to stop the spread of monkeypox. If you disagree then you care more about the economy than saving human lives.

Monkeypox sounds like an NS issue disease. I've come to hope that if this is as bad as the sensationalist say it is, that at least it'll get a more respectable mainstream name.

If you want a mainstream name, you can pick between tallpox, grandepox and ventipox.

I would want them to change the name to "rodentpox" or something; since it is transmitted by rodents, not monkeys.

Still, unlike covid this is not a new disease; nor is it particulary deadly.. so I am kinda missing why there is a hype now.

Could be a good thing really. Now that westerners are being affected it might lead to us developing a vaccine which would help Africa.
