I respectfully but strongly disagree. Chasing the ideal can cause more harm than good. We Americans have to realize that we can’t get 100% of what we want a 100% of the time. We are a liberal democracy, we are going to have different viewpoints on what the ideal society is.

The inability to acquire an ideal government doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for it.

If you start a negotiation with the compromise position, you end up with next to nothing. The way to make improvements is to start with an "unreasonable" demand and end up with something substative.

As a Christian, I believe that is only achievable when Jesus comes back…

The “ideal government” means very different things to many different types of people. America is not a hive mind.

Okay, and? People disagree, that's not really new.

My point is that how can we get the prefect ideal government when we have such strong disagreements.

Well it won't be ideal for everyone, but that's impossible. We should each of us strive for our own ideal.

That requires electing pragmatists. Unfortunately, not enough Americans don’t care or view pragmatism as being weak. That feeling is on both the left and the right.

"Pragmatic" politicians are invariably the worst kinds of neoliberal warhawk centrists.

Well, my ideal is a government based on the old school right-wing Christian Democracy or paternalistic conservatism. But I live in the U,S, which makes me 1 in 332,278,200. So, I’ve leaned that you can’t always get what we want, and I’d settle for B- or a C+ grade of what I view as an ideal government

It is thought British political figures claim to be Aston Villa fans specifically so they don't lose votes by offending rival fanbases of the more relevant soccer clubs.

We could elect them… or we just let the American Bar Association do it all for us.

Electing Justices is a bad thing, then they become even more politicised.

Just have the lower courts appoint the federal Justices. The UK Supreme Court is appointed independently.

Pretty crazy that "everyone I don't like is a child rapist" is an acceptable position in American politics.
