Well now, this is unprecedented and will surely set up a legal fight, hopefully one the committee wins:

The Jan. 6 Committee has subpoenaed five GOP House members.

They include Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan, Scott Perry, Mo Brooks, and Andy Biggs. All have refused to show up. Other than ethic committee subpoenas, this is the first time a sitting member of Congress has been issued a Congressional Subpoena. it will undoubtedly be challenged in court. Let's hope the courts move fast on this issue.

Damn you, you ninja'd me boi :p

I agree: it should have been done much sooner. They will most certainly fight this and stall until they take power next year. Good on the Committee going after them but they waited too long.

Partially. She's also saying that CRT will lead to Marxism through the "Long march", a clear reference to Gramsci's Long March(which is something of a misnomer as he never actually used the phrase but it's heavily based on his Theory of Hegemony), which is a popular way to attack education on the right.

I should probably do some digging to demonstrate my point but just take it on faith that you occasionally get thinkpieces about the immature political culture in NZ, where the author references the US. What they're thinking about is how this article about an election that hasn't even happened yet is chonky, but I just can't help but think about how you've had to preface "The Jan. 6 Committee has subpoenaed five GOP House members" with "this is unprecedented and will surely set up a legal fight".

This is why Tudor/Stuart England has been such a mainstay in history lessons in NZ! The events of Stuart England are the literal basis of the constitutional framework of NZ's government. They're also weirdly reminiscent of the Trumpist period in US history.

it’s funny because CRT is really just a legal doctrine that looks at the world through a lens of systematic oppression, but somehow it’s been morphed by the right to actually be racist in itself, and since it’s easier to declare loudly that CRT is evil leftist racist socialism than it is to actually explain it, that belief wins out.

"CRT" has just taken on the meaning of any race rectification curriculum in school. And since there seem to be a ton more people dissatisfied with how race is taught than there are people trying to correct the terminology, here we are...

So, too, NIMBYS, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfm2xCKOCNk

YIMBY, in contrast, is neoliberal, e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/left_urbanism/ ... ification/

The latter point is probably also talked about by the world's most boring Youtuber but it's (a) been ages since I watched his video on gentrification and (b) it might have been one of his other videos that the subject came up in.

In a similar vein, the only people who support congestion pricing are the most hardcore environmentalists and libertarians.
