For cases like this, we should definitely have capital punishment. We need to send a message to far-right terrorists that we don’t fuck around.

If the man did this to increase tensions and provoke gun laws that'll incite armed resistance (as he claims), it hardly sounds like the death penalty would be a deterrent. As long as they believe they can pull off the attack, the rest is immaterial, and, in their eyes, only makes them a martyr to a government guilty of, checks notes, allowing minorities to exist or whatever it is they're complaining about. Of course, they can always change their mind about dying, but that'll likely be after the fact, which isn't useful as a deterrence.

Admittedly, I'm not much for the death penalty, but I just don't see its effect when most people involved in terrorism are already ensnared in a rhetoric of violent struggle, where the concept of dying is already normalized or otherwise minimalized.
