More and more, Elon Musk is just looking like a 21st century, politically correct Caligula. Dude was pretty popular as well before he started getting weird.

Define "weird". Politicians who claim Jews have space lasers, vaccines contain satan controlled sentient squid, that women have abortions because Satan whispers to them it will result in marriage etc. are all considered perfectly fit to perform their function.

Making a horse a senator seems pretty sane in comparision.

Leftism is defined by anti-capitalism, whether Marxian or non-Marxian. Republicanism and classical liberalism is a separate political tradition that has had some mutual exchange of ideas with leftism, but fundamentally, there is a difference between them. Leftists are anyone who critiques and opposes liberal democracy from the left, which necessarily requires anticapitalism.

Musk is reportedly securing more and more funding for his Twitter buyout from various other investors, potentially eliminating the need for him to take out a loan against his Tesla stock.

Apparently this means that the Muskening is going to load Twitter up with debt, on top of the billions it already owes, which will be a problem as Twitter is not exactly bringing in big money as it stands. It doesn't seem likely that Musk is going to discover some heretofore unimagined means to monetise the bird site, so this will probably just kill the company.

So like, what is the point of any of this? $44 billion to slowly ruin a website. And people tell me that this is the best way to allocate scarce resources.

Weird reason to put the deal on hold. Musk must have known that Twitter has a bunch of bot accounts, since he's complaining about them and talking about how he wants to get rid of them. What could the exact number matter?

I wonder if the agreement Musk already signed to buy Twitter has an escape clause he might be trying to trigger.

I'm led to believe if Twitter materially misrepresented a number of things to him, he gets out and Twitter owes him a billion dollars.

Also, if he cancels without one of those things, he owes twitter a billion dollars.

Possible. Apparently removing ithe number of bots who pay for services impacts the financials Musk was given for analysis.... Or something like that the articles I am reading are fuzzy on the thing.

Friendly reminder Caligula wasn't actually crazy. All the weird shit he did were power moves to intimidate and humiliate his rivals. Everything from appointing a horse as consul, to declaring war on Poseidon and ordering his men to stab the water, to loudly and jubilantly reminding everyone attending his feast he could have them executed at any given time. All of it was political maneuvering.

That's... A bold claim. Now, it's fair not to take Suétone at his word for everything but qualifying every of Caligula... "eccentricities" as being political moves rather than him being a sadistic, lunatic little shit is a bit too generous.
It's also forgetting that we kinda know he was a sister-fucker and took pleasure in tormenting the pleb in the amphitheater by removing the cloth used as "roof" and forbidding anyone from leaving during hot summer days.

I think you'd agree both moves definitely can't be construed as political in nature, and most definitely aren't coming from someone too well in his head.

He may have realized; how do you validate a bot versus a person when declare no banning freedom of speech uber alles.

Remember when Trumps follower numbers took a dump when they did a bot elimination? Musk probably thought they were people.
