No. It’s like Trump’s claims to clean the swamp; he significantly enlarged it.

I was referring to a common criticism of Twitter moderation on a thread about Elon Musk buying Twitter, but hey, if the shoe fits.Lysset wrote:Okay, let me introduce a reality check on you, bucko: You are not being persecuted by the "Gaystapo", and it is extremely disingenuous to compare the Mod team, who punished you for breaking the site's rules, to a version of the Nazi regime's hateful and downright evil secret police who helped support one of the worst genocides in modern history

Leftism is not inherently anti-capitalist. You're thinking of Marxism, which is only part of the Left. If we want to describe the Left as having one consistent idea across time, it is a position in the politics of revolutionary-era France, which predates the birth of Karl Marx by 30 years, that the power of the King should be limited and that he should not have unlimited veto power over the legislature. The original 18th century left-right distinction was that liberalism is on the left while monarchism is on the right.Untecna wrote:Your reminder that Liberalism is capitalist, not leftist

Leftists dabbled with anti-capitalism in the 19th century, went full hog with it in the 20th century, failed and are now back to being capitalist again.

Apparently this means that the Muskening is going to load Twitter up with debt, on top of the billions it already owes, which will be a problem as Twitter is not exactly bringing in big money as it stands. It doesn't seem likely that Musk is going to discover some heretofore unimagined means to monetise the bird site, so this will probably just kill the company.
So like, what is the point of any of this? $44 billion to slowly ruin a website. And people tell me that this is the best way to allocate scarce resources.

Weird reason to put the deal on hold. Musk must have known that Twitter has a bunch of bot accounts, since he's complaining about them and talking about how he wants to get rid of them. What could the exact number matter?
I wonder if the agreement Musk already signed to buy Twitter has an escape clause he might be trying to trigger.

Friendly reminder Caligula wasn't actually crazy. All the weird shit he did were power moves to intimidate and humiliate his rivals. Everything from appointing a horse as consul, to declaring war on Poseidon and ordering his men to stab the water, to loudly and jubilantly reminding everyone attending his feast he could have them executed at any given time. All of it was political maneuvering.

Perhaps he is shocked that only 5% are bots - meaning that 95% really is that trash ?
