Mission accomplished -- he distracted everyone from his part in the Depp-Heard fiasco and financially damaged (at least short term) Twitter with his fake concern about free speech, reversing the ban on fellow billionaire Donald Trump, and taking care of any chance that Musk would not be able to manipulate markets through his tweets in the future.

Indeed. At least we would have had official proof the “ultimate free speech” supporter wasn’t really.

He is tool. Brilliant and yet a tool.

Come to think of it, he was trolling conservatives more than he was trolling the left. Because the left side through this kabuki act and knew he was just trolling. Right wing Musk defenders are trying to spin this more than a dreidel. They can’t accept or admit that they got played

I just find it funny that right wing Musk fans are trying to act like that they didn’t just get trolled. I mean, people don’t really have the humility to admit that they got trolled? I mean, the “untrollable race”(right wing shit posters and trolls) are some of easiest people to troll

Now the fun begins. Twitter had it to where he would pay money if he simply walked away. He will be all about Twitter lied, blah, blah, blah.

Then again, he may write them a check and move on….

Apparently the board at Twitter is going to sue Musk for pulling out the deal. This is going to be interesting

Pretty much. He's rarely ever the best businessman, but I'll give him some credit; he can navigate the world of publicity really quite savvily.

Congratulations to Musk on being able to pull out for once instead of getting something and then abandoning it immediately.

Well, this is sad news. I had hoped he'd be able to provide a bit of balance to our often censored political landscape.

Ngl the only thing that would have happened to Twitter is that there would be more NFT-buying, lolicon-retweeting lolberts and less "Emily she/they 1312" leftists. It would still be censored but in favor of Right-libertarians instead.

Again, why would anyone think the eccentric billionaire shitposter who shot his car into space and named his son a number is going to be responsible with ownership of Twitter?

I'd like him to not be 'responsible' in the way you'd most likely see it.

Musk seems like this weird combination of cypher and hot potato where people tie one end of the political spectrum or the other to some batshit thing he does. The left is supposed to love him because his company modernized the electric car (I mean, how big of an idea was it to realize that lithium ion batteries charged fast enough to start making EVs viable) and the libertarian leaning right are supposed to love him because he has the same grade school understanding of things like 'free speech' and taxes/regulations etc.

I think in the end he's just an asshole that no one really likes but at least hopes one of his random tangents pans out in your favor.

The next five years for that dude are going to be interesting. There are viable alternatives both in new companies like Lucid, Rivian, and strangely enough Fisker or from well established car manufacturers that have long established pipelines for manufacturing, distribution, and servicing as well as established relationships for people who say, for some reason despite dieselgate, don't trust Tesla but do trust Volkswagen or at the very least have a degree of confidence Volkswagen will exist in ten years. There will always be the Cult of Tesla but they might end up dwindling down to just a regular ass car club. Or he'll continue to stay afloat and say weird shit and overpromise things no one asked him for.

Will the thread title need to be changed to: Elon Musk officially (doesn't) buy Twitter? He has his share of legal troubles like Trump does from what I hear.
