Yes. And Biden is considerably more right wing than both of them were.
And yet people believe the communism scareword.

Who believes it though?

the part of the right wing who don’t know what socialism is and support trump and his ideology. you have to remember that most people don’t actually know what socialism is and just picture the USSR. if nobody believed it, they would use different smears.

Why would they use different smears? An insult doesn't need to be literally correct.

but it loses a bit of weight when everyone knows it’s nonsensical. I’m sure they could find something more effective to replace it.

Few if any words we use insultingly are literally true, and they function as insults well enough.

Because shithead has no other use. There's no situation that I was call someone an asshole that'd imply I was literally designating an entire person as an anatomical part.

"Communist", however, has a role that could be used in the same situation. I'd be like me calling everyone a monarchist and then getting annoyed when everyone refuses to dump a definition just to meet my own (supposed) purpose for the word.

I'll make sure to tell the millions of people who were lifted out of poverty because of the New Deal that their livelihoods amount to a fluffy tail.

I know that the New Deal helped millions of people. It’s just not socialism that helped them. It was the government addressing issues instead of either downplaying it or just naively thinking it just will go away or get better just like that.

It's not stupidity, it's decades of coordinated manipulation starting during the Cold War by corporate media to prevent critical thinking and is aimed primarily at the largest demographic in America: the working class. This is by design meant to prevent a worker revolution so as to ensure the security of the assets of capitalists by turning those to whom socialist ideals would most appeal to (the proletariat and the peasantry) against those very ideals by creating misinformation of those ideals and what they represent as well as creating an environment which promotes pursuit of success at the expense of others that banks on the inherent selfish ideology of an individualist society. The idea is to prevent class consciousness by keeping the only people with the power to change anything from realizing that the system doesn't work for them and never did, thus ensuring they will never rise up against their oppressors and the status quo will be maintained until the inevitable point in which late stage capitalism collapses from it's own decrepit nature and the corporate bandits flee the country en masse to other capitalist countries so they can pick up where they left off: exploiting the workers for personal profit. America, meanwhile, will crumble and the poor--as always--will be the ones who suffer.

But...really, how far gone would your reasoning skills have to be to believe in something that absurd? The general lack of class-consciousness is a whole other kettle, but this? Lizardmen? LIZARDMEN? This is... I'd have people like this certified insane, unable to make basic rational decisions. This is way beyond capitalism vs socialism, beyond workers rights and even creationism, it's so utterly absurd. It's a bona fide paranoid delusion, it is just bloody insane. I bet Trump, even as stupidly insane as he is, is laughing is ass off on qanons calling him and Kim Jong Un heroes fighting against the deep state and the lizardmen, it's on a whole other level to the usual absurd insanity that is US politics from a european perspective.

We germans are biased. We like our politicians businesslike and bland, to the point that colourlessness and absence of charisma are selling points, as our current chancellor exemplifies- Personally I saw some videos of that british fellow, the "Order, order!"-dude, and was horrified: politics as a circus. I realize my perspective might not be universal of course, but that whole Q-nonsense? This is 3 steps beyond creationism and candidates challenging each other on who's the most christian, it's just too absurd to contemplate.
