Actually I would argue unrest is the perfect time to become more belligerent, start yelling about an enemy.

Second, people go ape over the fear that China will invade Taiwan every 5 years. So, no. China won't invade just because Russia, China's unstable and flagging frenemy bedfellow, is Lebensrauming a neighbor.

I'm willing to bet that the US will collapse into civil war much sooner than China would even contemplate invading Taiwan.

No, it's Wolf-Warrior diplomacy. It's the government looking tough to increase domestic support. It would be impractical to hold Taiwan even if the U.S. didn't defend them, and that's the reason why the ROC was able to remain there in the first place after the Chinese civil war.
