Can't see how people can still support Russia.

They make an argument in favour of Russia. Anybody can do it. And ignore anti-russian shit to preserve their fragile world view

The Irish Civil War is traditionally dated from June 1922 to May 1923. It began in the immediate aftermath of pro-treaty candidates winning the June 1922 Irish general election, and ended with anti-treaty leaders calling a ceasefire in May 1923.

Nice for the people who live, sure.

But who is going to actually do it?

And why would anyone do it for a long displaced group of people like Crimean Tatars, and not for a much more relevant group of people, like Ukrainians?

Many thousands if you accept the current Russian definition of 'Nazi'. As this seems to encompass Jewish political leaders with family members who fought in the Great Patriotic War, and who also lost family in the Holocaust, we might want to take that definition with a pinch of salt.

Given that the Russian forces have also bombed a memorial to one of the worst atrocities in the Holocaust and have chosen a reverse half-swastika as their main emblem for the conflict, they're certainly sending out some conflicting messaging on this one.

"Denazification" Russian style:

Send a paramilitary organisation founded by a literal Nazi to invade a sovereign country and kill its democratically Jewish president. And publish a triumphalist article about the "solution of the Ukrainian question" while at it.

Fair enough. Personally wouldn't put much stock in people's opinions online. It's hard to genuinely know unironic beliefs. Funnily enough I did meet a guy who thought "Hitler was a genius," in person. Kinda wished I roasted that mf nowadays.

Because they seem to not have killed many of those. Odd if they were supposedly the primary target.

I'd actually argue otherwise - before the advent of peaceful international norms (which raises the diplomatic costs of war), industrialised firepower (which raises the physical costs of war), and international trade (which raises the economic costs of war), countries could and very often did make war "worth it" as long as they won and could then seize stuff from the defeated enemy.

To the contrary, even if Ukraine kicks out every Russian soldier out of its pre-2014 borders tomorrow morning it would still be far worse off, as a people and also as a state, than it was on the 23rd of February. Similarly, if Kyiv and Lviv falls overnight and Putin gets to install whoever he likes in the Ukrainian government tomorrow, Russia, both as a people and also as a state, would still be worse off than it was on the 23rd of February.

The changing technological environment has drastically changed the calculations from the perspective of anyone who thinks about starting a war as a means of achieving whatever it is that they want.

1922-'23, then. My bad.

Yah not really. That Ukraine and Russia will be worse off after this war ends has next nothing to do with modern laws of war. Hurricane victories and devastating invasions have been things for millennia.
