Not exactly a surprise. How often does the west care when ever shit happens in say Africa or Central Asia?

People tend to care about obly what directly affects them. For the west that’s shit that happens in Europe, the Americas, the oil producing regions of the Middle East, and the Pacific.

Probably not, the choice of the Maldives is because other countries either have their own sanctions and/or extradition treaties with the US, so they basically are stuck there and need to pay daily fees for staying.
