Something funny about my neck of the woods, when there is literally an inch or two of snow predicted, everyone goes nuts. They start hoarding, schools close (yay!), businesses close, they start putting salt on the roads, they all freak out. I hear people in the Northern states carry on with their business with several feet of snow! Forgive me if I'm astounded by this, but here it's a "severe winter storm" if 3 inches of snow fall.

This winter (2022) we had 3 snowstorms, that were the biggest in 30 years. In a row. The most we got was about half a foot of snow. I've lived here my whole life, and those were the biggest snow days that I've seen. I was surprised at how well they took it, they didn't freak out, just hunker down at home . The really funny thing is, it took a "severe winter storm" for them to want to stay at home. I say this because almost all my neighbors weren't too keen on COVID restrictions, if you know what I mean.

Ah, yes, that was just about 30 miles away over in Minonk at its north end. It was about the same distance all the way down to where 39 meets 55.

It was quite windy yesterday, almost 45 mph gusts, but it didn’t start storming until around 7.

Sorry I missed this, but just to be clear, you realise that's in Celsius, right? That's 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

25 degrees C is 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

It's an unintentional trick question... apparently 40C/35% humidity (which is relative, ofc) translates to a higher wet bulb temperature than 25C/86. In terms of the Heat Index, the latter is 26C whereas the former is 46C... which is high enough to put it in "Danger: heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely; heat stroke is probable with continued activity".

It was meant to be an actual dilemma, i.e. the humidity should've been way lower and the temperature somewhat lower. Instead, I created an extremely dangerous combination of heat and humidity versus an unpleasantly sticky day.

Interestingly, in Fahrenheit it's closer to being a dilemma... the wetbulb for 40F/35% is just under freezing and for 25F/86% it's -4.5C/23.9F.

Rogue waves were once thought to be a myth. Now, scientists say they observed one that was almost 60 feet tall.

I’m aware. 25 C is a bit cold for me, after you live in a desert anything below 30 is cold.

Ah. I’ll just take low humidity, which around here is roughly about 20% during the summer months and about 45C/112

In southern Wisconsin, it's looking like we could get over a quarter inch of freezing rain overnight and during the day tomorrow. That means over a quarter inch of ice. We'll have to see what happens.

Twin winter storms coming to central and eastern states

The first storm has already dropped several inches of snow in the Dakotas.

AccuWeather meteorologist Matt Benz predicted 6 to 12 inches of snow will fall from the Dakotas to northern Michigan, and the Duluth, Minn., area will see the heaviest snowfall, up to two feet.

The storms will bring ice and a wintry mix to parts of Iowa and norther Missouri all the way to northern New York, New England and Maine by Tuesday and early Wednesday, according to AccuWeather.

I-84 closed in eastern Oregon due to pileup crashes involving nearly 100 vehicles. Heavy snow in the area is the cause.

If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

Here in beautiful South Dakota the temperature dropped from a high of 40 F on Sunday to being -30 F when I got up this morning. Also 4-6 inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

We've had similar swings in Missouri. It was in the low-mid 60's twice in the past month before having a snowstorm big enough to shut most of the city down for several days. If this keeps up I'm worried that the plants will start trying to bud only to get zapped the next day.
